Job Title: Programmer – Advanced (Mainframe / COBOL)

Location: 100% Remote

Duration: 9-Month Contract

Employment Type: Contract

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Programmer (Advanced level) to support critical system enhancements and maintenance within a large-scale healthcare/public sector environment. This role involves working on legacy systems, performing coding changes, testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement coding changes in COBOL and ADS programs
  • Work with IDMS Network and Relational Databases for development and maintenance
  • Analyze technical and design specifications to implement solutions
  • Perform debugging, unit testing, and integration testing
  • Support QA, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and external testing phases
  • Make necessary code fixes and enhancements during testing cycles
  • Maintain clear and effective written and verbal communication with stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external teams
  • Participate in on-call support rotation

Required Skills (Ranked):

  • 10+ years of experience with Mainframe systems
  • 10+ years of experience with MVS COBOL
  • 10+ years of experience with JCL (Job Control Language)
  • 10+ years of experience with IDMS/Network databases
  • 10+ years of experience with DB2
  • 7+ years of experience with CA-ADS
  • 5+ years of experience with Changeman
  • 5+ years of experience with CICS
  • 5+ years of experience with VSAM

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with SAS
  • Familiarity with File-AID
  • Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare claims processing systems
  • Experience with MQ (Message Queuing)
  • Exposure to Endevor
  • Experience with Xpeditor

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Ability to adapt and work in dynamic environments
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Comfortable working in high-pressure environments

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience
