The incumbent in this position is responsible for maintaining and administering the department's UNIX file servers and networks. This includes all critical services such as DNS, NIS, Mail, Web servers, and UNIX security.

Type of Recruitment Knowledge, skills and abilities

Working knowledge UNIX system administration to include installation, virtualization, and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of HPCC clusters including installation, management, and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of Database administration, installation, and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of IT security to include intrusion detection and prevention. Strong programming skill in C/C++ and Perl.

Level and type of experience

Considerable experience in UNIX System Administration in a large networked environment, virtualization, and troubleshooting. Experience installing and administering HPCC clusters to include installation and troubleshooting. Experience administering databases from various vendors such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL, etc.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

UNIX administration certification, DBA certification, and IT security certification. Considerable knowledge in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
