This role is part of the Accounting Team and partners closely with Project Management to perform advanced project accounting activities throughout the project lifecycle in compliance with GAAP, contractual requirements, and company policy.The Project Accountant will perform complex project accounting functions, ensuring data integrity within the ERP system (Deltek Vantagepoint) and compliance with GAAP and internal controls. This position operates with a high degree of independence, exercising discretion and professional judgment on individual work assignments and may serve as a lead on projects or initiatives of moderate complexity.DLB has experienced rapid, sustained growth; success in this role requires a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, continuous improvement focus, and the initiative to anticipate issues, close gaps, and meet company and client deadlines.The Project Accountant will communicate and operate in alignment with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.Essential FunctionsProject Facilitation / Administration (70%)Create new projects, enter purchase orders (POs) and change orders (COs) in the ERP system based on approved request formsVerify contract terms, task codes, billing rates and funding limits are accurately establishedProvide subject-matter expertise and guidance on project initiation in ERP systemReview project financial documents and provide data to project managers on project performanceSupport project managers throughout the project lifecycle including project setup, billing, closeout, etc.Partner with project managers to monitor invoice status and proactively follow up as necessaryCollaborate with billing specialists to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely billingLead weekly coordination meetings with project managers to address open items, reporting needs, and ERP-related questionsProject Administration (20%)Coordinate and collect all required documentation for new clients and subcontractors, including but not limited to NDA, COI, ACH info, W9, billing forms, and related compliance materialsMaintain complete and well-organized contract administration files on the network and in the accounting systemEnsure ongoing project data accuracy through regular audits, reconciliations, and exception reportingEnsure conformance to internal policies and recommend updates or enhancements as neededPrepare, generate, and submit client billings in accordance with contractual terms, submission requirements, and organization standardsResearch and resolve invoicing discrepancies, implementing corrections or adjustments as requiredMonitor cash receipts and ensure proper application to outstanding invoicesAudit / Process Improvements (10%)Serve as ERP power evaluating existing workflows and recommending automation or efficiency improvementsIdentify and drive project accounting process improvements and in collaboration with Software Engineers and Business & Financial Analysts to implementAssist with year end audit support, including retrieval of invoices, contracts, and supporting documentationRespond to ad hoc requests from project accountants, project managers, and leadershipParticipate in training to expand accounting, ERP, and systems knowledgeAttend company and client meetings as requiredCross-train to provide support to other Project Accounting and Finance team membersCompletion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on BudgetPerforms other related duties as assignedPosition Requirements (Intermediate Level For All The Following)Advanced understanding of project accounting, billing projections and contract administrationProficiency with Microsoft365 (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams), including advanced Excel functionalityExperience with an ERP or project accounting platform (DeltekVantagepoint preferred)Basic understanding of debits/credits, percentage of completion concepts, and billing schedulesAbility to work effectively in a fully remote environment with strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills in a distraction-free workspaceClear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable supporting remote colleagues via Teams and e mailDemonstrated ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutionsAbility to prepare, maintain, and analyze accurate financial records, reports, and documentationAbility to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environmentStrong attention to detail and ability to deadlinesOrganizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyEducation/ExperienceAssociate degree in accounting or related fieldPLUSMinimum of five (5) years of experience in project accounting or a closely related roleERP / billing software experience (Vantagepoint a plus)Physical DemandsThe following physical demands must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
