Job Title: Project Architect (Job Captain / PM-Leaning)

Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced project architect who independently manages complex projects, coordinates multidisciplinary consultants, and produces high-quality construction documents in Revit. You will work in a small-office, hybrid environment and contribute to all phases of the project lifecycle, from schematic design and code analysis through construction administration. This is a hands-on, production-focused position rather than a design-only role, offering broad exposure and responsibility on technically complex projects such as healthcare, hospitality, assisted living, laboratories, and correctional facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage complex architectural projects from early design through construction, acting as a Project Architect or Job Captain with PM-leaning responsibilities.
  • Lead and coordinate consultants across multiple disciplines to ensure fully integrated project delivery and consistent communication.
  • Produce complete, high-quality construction document sets using Revit, including full contract documents in cloud-based models.
  • Oversee and maintain Revit models in a cloud environment, ensuring accuracy, coordination, and alignment with project standards.
  • Contribute actively to all phases of a project, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
  • Prepare and review construction drawings and details that support buildable, code-compliant solutions for technically complex projects.
  • Apply knowledge of building codes, including familiarity with Washington and/or California codes and permitting processes, to support compliant project design and documentation.
  • Support and occasionally lead client meetings, presenting design concepts, technical solutions, and project updates in a clear and professional manner.
  • Manage project timelines, including large and multi-year schedules, and help keep projects on track with respect to scope, budget, and milestones.
  • Participate in construction administration activities, such as responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and coordinating with contractors as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with a small team in a hybrid office setting, contributing to a culture that values independence, initiative, and minimal micromanagement.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff, sharing knowledge of Revit, construction documentation, and complex project delivery.

Essential Skills

  • 6-8 years of professional architectural experience.
  • Strong experience working on technically complex projects such as healthcare, hospitality, assisted living, laboratories, or correctional facilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, including 6-8 years of Revit-based construction document production in cloud-based models.
  • Proven ability to independently manage projects as a Project Architect or Job Captain with project management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating consultants and managing complex project scopes.
  • Experience producing comprehensive construction drawings and construction documents.
  • Familiarity with construction administration processes and procedures.
  • Experience with schematic design and the ability to translate design concepts into buildable solutions.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, with familiarity in California and/or Washington building codes and permitting processes.
  • Comfort supporting client meetings and communicating clearly with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to run projects with minimal oversight.
  • Willingness to contribute to all phases of a project, not only design.
  • Actively pursuing architectural licensure is preferred, though licensure is not required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on large-scale and multi-year project timelines.
  • Experience in healthcare, assisted living, hospitality, laboratory, or correctional projects, including complex program and technical requirements.
  • Experience with Our Client development and schematic design workflows for complex building types.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative office environment and within distributed teams across multiple locations.
  • Interest in professional growth, including progressing toward licensure and expanding project management capabilities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a Seattle office that operates on a hybrid schedule, with team members working in the office two days per week (typically Tuesday and Wednesday) and remotely three days per week. The Seattle studio is a small office of approximately 8-10 staff, offering close collaboration and broad, hands-on project exposure. The broader practice includes teams in California, Mexico City, and smaller project offices in Los Angeles and Korea, providing opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across multiple locations. The culture emphasizes independence, self-starter attitudes, and minimal micromanagement, while still offering support and mentorship. Work centers around Revit-based production in cloud environments, complex project coordination, and full project lifecycle involvement in a professional, team-oriented setting.
