The Project Assistant supports the Project Manager and project team in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and customers to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality expectations.
The Project Assistant is involved throughout the project lifecycle and is responsible for completing assigned project management and coordination activities. This role provides an opportunity to develop construction management knowledge and experience while contributing directly to successful project outcomes.
Understand, support, and promote OCP safety policies and expectations.
Support the Project Manager, Superintendent, Foreman, and project team throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Prepare, maintain, and communicate project constraint logs in accordance with OCP procedures.
Update and communicate six-week look-ahead schedules.
Monitor project schedules and assist with identifying potential delays, constraints, or coordination issues.
Assist with pricing and documentation related to project changes and revised construction documents.
Coordinate and track project submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Assist with the procurement and buyout of subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
Review and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, and project information.
Maintain accurate and organized project documentation and records.
Attend project and jobsite meetings as needed and assist with follow-up items.
Communicate effectively with project teams to support timely completion of project requirements.
Build and maintain professional working relationships with OCP field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and reduce waste in support of OCP's lean construction practices.
Support the Project Manager and project team with additional project-related responsibilities as assigned.
Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Three to five years of relevant construction field or leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
General understanding of construction processes, terminology, and project sequencing.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and other construction documents.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with construction or project management software is preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem-solving, prioritization, and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
Ability to develop positive working relationships with field personnel, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
Professional approach to resolving issues and working through project challenges.
A successful Project Assistant is organized, dependable, proactive, and eager to learn. They communicate effectively with both office and field teams, follow through on assigned responsibilities, maintain accurate project information, and anticipate project needs. Over time, the Project Assistant develops a strong understanding of OCP's construction processes and builds the skills necessary to take on increasing project management responsibility.
