ROLE OVERVIEW
A growing industrial organization is seeking an experienced Project Controller to oversee the financial activities associated with a major new facility development and operational launch in the Fort Worth area.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role that will manage the day-to-day financial operations of a large capital project while working closely with project leadership, operations, engineering partners, vendors, and senior finance executives.
The Project Controller will be responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, managing project-related payments and cash activity, tracking project costs, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring financial reporting aligns with GAAP and internal requirements.
Because the project includes international equipment procurement, cross-border vendors, and significant capital investment, the ideal candidate will also bring familiarity with international transactions, tariffs, import-related costs, and cross-border financial considerations.
The position is expected to begin in a remote capacity while the local facility is under development and transition to an onsite environment once the office becomes operational.
This role offers strong growth potential for someone interested in developing into broader financial leadership as the organization expands its U.S. operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the day-to-day financial activities associated with a major facility build-out and operational startup.
Process and oversee project-related payments, invoices, vendor bills, reimbursements, and other financial transactions.
Manage banking activity, cash movement, account balances, and project-related financial collections.
Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation for project expenditures.
Track project costs against approved budgets and identify significant variances or emerging financial risks.
Support the preparation and maintenance of project budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and financial reporting.
Partner with project leadership to monitor capital spending and ensure financial activity aligns with project plans and approved expenditures.
Review vendor invoices and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, proper authorization, and appropriate accounting treatment.
Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, and vendor partners regarding financial commitments, invoices, change orders, and project costs.
Monitor purchase commitments, contracts, equipment costs, construction expenditures, and other project-related financial obligations.
Maintain accurate reporting of project assets and support capitalization of equipment, construction, and other qualifying expenditures.
Assist with fixed-asset accounting and project capitalization activities as the facility progresses toward operation.
Ensure financial activity is recorded in accordance with GAAP and established accounting policies.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to the project.
Prepare account reconciliations, supporting schedules, financial summaries, and management reports.
Work closely with senior finance leadership to provide visibility into spending, cash requirements, and overall project financial performance.
Assist with international payments, foreign vendors, imported equipment, and related cross-border financial activity.
Track and help evaluate tariffs, duties, freight, customs, and other costs associated with international equipment and materials.
Coordinate with internal and external tax, accounting, legal, and financial advisors as needed.
Support financial controls, audit requests, documentation requirements, and compliance activities.
Identify opportunities to improve project accounting processes, controls, reporting, and financial visibility.
Provide clear and timely financial information to project leadership and executive stakeholders.
Travel to partner and project locations as needed to support project coordination and financial oversight.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Strong experience in project accounting, project controls, controllership, corporate accounting, or a similar financial role.
Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP.
Experience managing day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, payments, cash management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Experience supporting large capital projects, facility expansions, construction projects, manufacturing operations, or other project-based environments.
Strong budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and variance analysis skills.
Experience working with significant capital expenditures and project-related financial activity.
Ability to review financial transactions and identify errors, inconsistencies, or potential control issues.
Strong understanding of accounting controls and financial documentation requirements.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and establish processes in a developing business environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with finance, operations, engineering, project leadership, vendors, and executive stakeholders.
Ability to travel approximately every other week as required during the current phase of the project.
Ability to transition to an onsite work environment in the Fort Worth / DFW area once the local facility becomes operational.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience as a Project Controller, Plant Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, Project Accountant, or similar role supporting significant capital projects.
Manufacturing, industrial, engineering, construction, or facility-development experience.
Experience supporting a greenfield facility, new manufacturing operation, plant startup, or major facility expansion.
Knowledge of international accounting considerations related to cross-border transactions.
Familiarity with tariffs, import duties, freight costs, customs expenses, and international equipment purchases.
Experience working with international vendors and processing foreign or cross-border payments.
Experience with fixed assets, capital-project accounting, and capitalization of construction and equipment costs.
Exposure to corporate finance, treasury, tax, or financial planning activities.
CPA, CMA, or similar accounting credential is beneficial but not required.
WHAT WILL MAKE SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL
The strongest candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast-moving project environment where processes are still being developed and financial decisions have a direct impact on project execution.
This person should be equally comfortable handling detailed accounting work and providing senior leaders with clear visibility into project spending, cash requirements, financial risks, and upcoming obligations.
Success in this role will require strong ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to work across accounting, operations, engineering, construction, and executive teams.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organized, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by the opportunity to help build the financial infrastructure behind a growing U.S. operation.
As the organization expands, this position has the potential to develop into broader finance leadership responsibilities, making it well suited for someone interested in long-term growth beyond the initial project.
