Project Controller in Houston, TX

  • $40/hr. - $46/hr.
  • Contract role with hybrid work schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday in office, Wednesday and Friday remote/work from home)

We're seeking a Project Controller to join a project controls team supporting large-scale capital projects. This role is ideal for professionals with experience in cost management, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and project performance tracking throughout the project lifecycle.

In this position, you'll partner closely with project management, engineering, construction, procurement, and accounting teams to help ensure project schedule and cost objectives are achieved. You'll play a key role in project planning, monitoring, forecasting, reporting, and closeout activities while supporting project execution from development through implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project estimates and map costs to the control WBS
  • Establish and maintain project budgets within SAP
  • Support development and execution of project controls plans
  • Monitor project schedules and maintain key milestone tracking
  • Ensure projects have appropriate funding and budget allocations
  • Update forecasts, estimates to complete, and time-phased budgets
  • Process requisitions for project materials and services
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, and performance against budget
  • Analyze cost variances and provide reporting explanations
  • Review contractor progress, invoices, and cost performance
  • Maintain project trend logs and support forecasting activities
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, scorecards, and project scans
  • Participate in project review meetings and update budgets and forecasts accordingly
  • Support administrative, financial, and system closeout activities
  • Present project performance updates and reports to management as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • 5–10 years of related Project Controls experience
  • Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and project reporting
  • Experience with SAP and project cost management systems
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM), progress measurement, and performance metrics
  • Experience supporting moderate-risk capital projects, including pipeline and facility projects
  • Field experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple project stakeholders
