Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Controls III professional to support large-scale capital projects in the Houston area. This role will play an important part in maintaining accurate project cost information, developing forecasts, monitoring project performance, managing changes, and providing meaningful financial and project controls reporting to project leadership.

The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years of hands-on project controls or cost controls experience supporting capital projects within oil & gas, pipelines, terminals, utilities, energy, industrial, construction, or similar infrastructure environments.

What You'll Do

• Support project controls activities for large-scale capital projects and programs.

• Monitor project budgets, actual costs, commitments, accruals, forecasts, and Estimate at Completion (EAC).

• Analyze project performance and identify cost trends, variances, risks, and potential impacts.

• Develop and maintain accurate project forecasts and financial reports.

• Support monthly project reporting and project close processes.

• Assist with earned value and project performance measurement.

• Maintain project cost structures and ensure accurate allocation and reporting of project expenditures.

• Support change management processes, including tracking and evaluating project changes.

• Review contracts, purchase orders, invoices, commitments, and other project financial information.

• Assist with invoice validation and payment certification.

• Work closely with Project Managers, engineering, construction, finance, procurement, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.

• Develop dashboards, reports, presentations, and other tools that clearly communicate project performance.

• Analyze large datasets to identify trends and provide actionable information to project leadership.

• Help improve and automate project controls and reporting processes.

• Maintain project documentation and reporting requirements using SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.

• Provide guidance and support to project team members on project controls processes and reporting expectations.

• Participate in periodic site visits and project execution activities as needed.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Controls, or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will also be considered.

• 3–5+ years of experience in Project Controls, Cost Controls, Field Controls, Construction Management, Project Accounting, or a related discipline.

• Experience supporting large capital projects or programs within oil & gas, pipeline, terminal, utility, energy, industrial, construction, or infrastructure environments.

• Strong knowledge of:

  • Cost management

  • Budgeting and forecasting

  • Accruals and commitments

  • Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • Estimate at Completion (EAC)

  • Change control

  • Risk management

  • Project performance monitoring

  • Financial and project reporting

• Experience with contract administration, invoice validation, payment certification, and change management.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience working with large and complex datasets.

• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines with limited supervision.

Technical Skills

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are important for this position, including experience with:

• PivotTables

• Power Query

• XLOOKUP

• Advanced formulas

• Data analysis and reporting

Experience with the following tools is highly valued:

• Oracle Cloud

• Oracle Projects

• Power BI

• Microsoft Office

• SharePoint

• Microsoft Teams

• AI productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude

Experience developing dashboards, automated reports, financial reporting tools, or process improvements is a plus.

You should be able to identify potential issues, dig into the data to understand what's happening, and communicate your findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You'll also be successful in this position if you're comfortable building relationships across project management, engineering, construction, finance, procurement, contractors, and vendors—and aren't afraid to ask questions or recommend improvements when you see an opportunity to make a process more effective.

Working Environment

This position primarily operates in a professional office environment with periodic visits to construction or project sites. Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

The position requires the ability to work extensively on a computer, review detailed project and financial information, manage competing priorities, exercise independent judgment, and consistently meet project and reporting deadlines.
