The Opportunity
The Project Controls Manager is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining project controls systems and processes to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. This role oversees cost management, scheduling, risk management, and performance reporting while supporting project teams with data-driven insights for decision-making.
What you will do?
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop, maintain, and monitor integrated project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
- Ensure alignment of schedule milestones with project deliverables and contractual requirements
- Perform schedule analysis, including critical path identification and delay impact assessments
Cost Management & Budget Control
- Develop project budgets and cost forecasts
- Monitor project expenditures, commitments, and cost performance
- Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations to mitigate cost overruns
- Ensure proper cost coding and adherence to financial controls
Risk & Change Management
- Identify, assess, and track project risks and opportunities
- Maintain a risk register and support mitigation planning
- Manage change control processes, including tracking change orders and impacts to cost and schedule
- Support claims analysis and documentation when needed
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Implement Earned Value Management (EVM) practices where applicable
- Prepare regular project reports, dashboards, and KPIs for leadership and stakeholders
- Analyze project performance trends and provide insights for corrective action
- Ensure data integrity within project control systems
Systems & Process Improvement
- Establish and standardize project controls procedures, tools, and best practices
- Lead implementation and optimization of project controls systems
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and industry standards
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor project controls staff (planners, schedulers, cost analysts)
- Collaborate with project managers, engineering, procurement, and finance teams
- Provide training and guidance on project controls methodologies
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Master’s degree (preferred but not required)
Experience
- 8–12+ years of experience in project controls, project management, or related discipline
- Experience managing large-scale capital projects (e.g., construction, infrastructure, energy, or manufacturing)
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams
Certifications (Preferred)
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- CCP (Certified Cost Professional)
- PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project)
- Proficiency in cost control systems and financial analysis
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM)
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to influence decision-making at senior levels
