    About the Role

Our client, a growing Energy Services Company (ESCO), is seeking a Project Development Engineer to support the development of energy, solar, and infrastructure upgrade projects across the Western U.S. This role plays a critical part in evaluating customer facilities, identifying efficiency and renewable-energy opportunities, developing technical scopes, and supporting proposals that drive measurable energy and operational savings.

The ideal candidate brings strong engineering acumen, customer-facing communication skills, and experience developing solutions within ESCO, performance contracting, or energy-focused engineering environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Technical Analysis & Project Scoping

    • Conduct site audits and assessments across commercial, industrial, municipal, and institutional facilities.

    • Identify opportunities for energy-efficiency measures (HVAC, controls, lighting, mechanical upgrades, etc.) and renewable-energy solutions.

    • Develop savings calculations, baseline models, energy-use profiles, and feasibility analyses.

    • Prepare engineering scopes of work, conceptual designs, and system recommendations.

    Project Development & Proposal Support

    • Collaborate with account executives, project teams, subcontractors, and estimators throughout the project development cycle.

    • Support creation of preliminary and final proposals, including technical narratives, engineered solutions, and performance-contracting content.

    • Assist in cost estimating, budget modeling, equipment selection, and ROI/NPV analyses.

    • Participate in customer presentations, pitch meetings, and solution walk-throughs as needed.

    Cross-Functional Engagement

    • Work closely with internal engineering, construction, measurement & verification, and energy-analysis teams to ensure alignment on project scope and deliverables.

    • Support the handoff of developed projects to construction and implementation teams.

    • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and subs to stay current on emerging technologies and pricing.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, or related Engineering field (or equivalent technical experience).

    • 5+ years of experience in ESCO, energy engineering, mechanical/electrical consulting, solar development, or performance contracting.

    • Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC, controls, lighting, and energy modeling.

    • Ability to conduct site audits, develop scopes of work, and analyze energy-saving opportunities.

    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface directly with clients.

    • Must reside in Arizona or California and be willing to travel regionally.
