    We are looking for a Project Development Scientist who will be part of the Writing Team within the Arthur Riggs Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. This team supports project management, scientific writing and clinical protocol development for the Institute. You will work closely with writing team leader and members, basic, translational and clinical researchers, biostatisticians and other stakeholders to shepherd projects from conception to grant/clinical protocol/manuscript submission. This team approach to research offers continuity of intellectual and practical input and is both efficient and rewarding.

    As a successful candidate, you will:

    • Assist with manuscript writing, editing, data presentation and journal submission
    • Assist with identification of funding opportunities, grant writing and submission
    • Work with investigators to assure the clarity and accuracy of data presentations, as well as the interpretation of results.
    • Develop in-depth knowledge of disease or treatment modality area of focus
    • Facilitate team interactions throughout the life of a project
    • Coordinate clinical trial design, writing and submission of clinical protocols
    • Assist with Investigational New Drug Applications (IND)

    Your qualifications should include:

    • PhD in biology, biochemistry, or other life science or a Master's degree with at least five years of scientific writing, grant and manuscript writing, clinical study design, or clinical trial regulatory experience in a healthcare/research/academic environment. City of Hope employees with a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences who have relevant outside and in-house experience/training may be hired for this job description.
    • Experience with NIH, Diabetes organizations or DOD research grant writing (R01 level, not post-doctoral fellowships), involvement with human observational or therapeutic studies, protocol design/writing for human sample, observational/retrospective or therapeutic studies is required.
    • Excellent scientific writing, organizational and interpersonal skills are key.
    • Familiarity with generating power point slides, data analysis techniques, graphing methods, and interpretation of laboratory and clinical data.
    • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, EndNote, Excel and PowerPoint. Prefer familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Illustrator.
    • Strong written and verbal English is required.
