Sterling Engineering is seeking a Project Engineer to support a large battery energy storage (BESS) project in Illinois. This is a fully remote opportunity for someone with a strong electrical engineering background and experience in solar PV or battery energy storage projects.
The Project Engineer will work closely with engineering, procurement, and commissioning teams, providing technical support from initial design through project completion.
Location: Remote, U.S.
Employment Type: 15 Month Contract
Pay Rate: $58–$65 per hour

Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate electrical drawing packages using AutoCAD.
- Review engineering drawings for NEC compliance and identify potential issues before installation.
- Serve as a primary technical contact for customers and internal project teams.
- Coordinate equipment specifications, material requirements, and procurement activities.
- Support project execution through design, installation, commissioning, and performance testing.
- Participate in weekly customer meetings and help resolve technical issues throughout the project.
- Review drawings and coordinate necessary design changes with engineering teams.
Qualifications:
- Experience in solar PV or battery energy storage (BESS) projects is required.
- Strong electrical engineering background; bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, including developing electrical drawing packages.
- Working knowledge of NEC requirements and electrical code compliance.
- Experience with EPC projects in renewable energy.
- Understanding of electrical equipment, specifications, and fire protection requirements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and directly with customers.
