As a Project Engineer, Design Support on the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, you will be the factory-facing design partner for current-generation products in mass production. You will own CAD and drawing updates, deviations, DFM reviews, and change follow-through so production can move quickly with Design as the final approver. This role sits in Manufacturing/NPI and partners closely with Design, Process, Quality, and Service. You will spend time on the floor, in CAD, and in change forums-turning factory needs into clean, approvable design packages.
Own factory CAD spins and drawing updates (2D/3D), including GD&T updates and minor design changes for current-generation products
Create and advance deviations and design change packages to support production continuity
Lead DFM reviews with Manufacturing, Process, Quality, and Design; convert factory feedback into actionable design recommendations
Maintain a clear system of record for factory design requests-intake, prioritization, status, decisions, and closure
Prepare complete design packages for Design review and approval; drive follow-through through release and production implementation
Partner with Change Control, NPI, Quality, and suppliers to execute design updates on schedule
Support root-cause and corrective actions on production and quality issues that require design or documentation changes
Improve handoff standards, templates, and workflows between the factory and Design
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
3-5+ years in manufacturing, NPI, launch, or design-support environments (automotive, energy, or high-volume hardware preferred)
Hands-on CAD experience with production drawings and assemblies (CATIA / 3DEXPERIENCE / SolidWorks preferred; ENOVIA or similar PLM a plus)
Working knowledge of GD&T, drawing standards, deviations/ECOs, and design change processes
Strong DFM instincts and comfort evaluating designs against real factory processes and assembly constraints
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent requests under time pressure
Clear written and verbal communication-able to turn factory issues into packages Design can approve quickly
Structured problem-solving skills (5-Why, 8D, DMAIC, or equivalent) and willingness to work on the manufacturing floor
