ESI specializes in Underground Utilities, Milling, Asphalt, Paving, Grading, Concrete, and Earthwork for commercial, municipal, and federal projects.Position Summary The Project Engineer provides critical support to the Project Manager on heavy civil construction projects valued from $100K to $20M+. This role assists with project administration, documentation, cost tracking, and field coordination while gaining experience in all aspects of construction project management. The Project Engineer serves as a liaison between the office and field, supporting ESI's self-performing disciplines: asphalt paving, concrete operations, earthwork & grading, utilities installation, and traffic control operations.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assist Project Manager with project setup, documentation, and administrative tasksTrack project costs, review invoices, and maintain accurate job cost recordsProcess submittals, RFIs, and change orders through project management systemsMaintain organized project files and documentation for compliance and audit readinessCoordinate with Project Superintendents and field personnel on daily operationsMonitor material deliveries, quantities, and track daily production reportsAssist with preparation of payment applications and monthly billingCreate and maintain project schedules and track progressSupport procurement activities (quotes, purchase orders, subcontracts)Conduct site visits to monitor progress and document field conditionsPrepare meeting minutes, daily reports, and project correspondenceReview plans and specifications to identify potential issues or conflictsAssist with quantity takeoffs and change order preparationTrack contract requirements, milestones, and deadlinesSupport Project Manager with owner communications and meetingsLearn and manage smaller projects independently as experience growsQualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)0–3 years of experience in construction project management or engineeringBasic understanding of construction processes, plans, and specificationsProficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project)Familiarity with construction software (HCSS HeavyJob, Trimble Viewpoint Vista, Procore, or similar) preferredStrong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work in both office and field environmentsSelf-motivated with ability to learn quickly and take initiativeRequirements Valid driver's licensePass background check and drug screeningAbility to wear PPE and work in varying indoor/outdoor environmentsStrong attention to detail, communication, and ability to work under pressurePhysical Demands Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and material handlingLift 10–50 lbs. frequently; up to 100 lbs. occasionallyOccasional climbing and overhead reachingContinuous physical activity throughout workdayPPE required at all times on job sitesIndoor and outdoor work with exposure to varying weather conditionsEqual Opportunity and E-Verify participating employerReasonable accommodation available as neededNote: This job description outlines primary duties and expectations but is not exhaustive.
