Project Engineer (HVAC / Facilities) - Contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to support critical facility infrastructure projects at a regulated manufacturing site in the Bronx, NY. This role is focused on HVAC systems, air pressurization, and airflow compliance improvements tied to active operational priorities.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will step into ongoing projects, quickly assume ownership, and drive execution in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of in-flight facility and HVAC-related projects, quickly assessing status and driving progress
  • Manage HVAC systems, airflow, pressurization, and Building Management Systems (BMS) initiatives
  • Serve as the site-facing project lead, coordinating internal stakeholders and external vendors/contractors
  • Review contractor proposals, drawings, and technical documentation (AutoCAD or similar)
  • Oversee vendor performance, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and site standards
  • Support and monitor commissioning, startup activities, FAT/SAT, and field verification
  • Maintain a strong field presence, ensuring work quality and challenging contractor output when necessary
  • Communicate daily with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and progress
  • Help navigate execution within a compliance-sensitive / regulated manufacturing environment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred; Electrical or related accepted with strong HVAC experience)

  • 8+ years of experience in project engineering, facilities engineering, or capital projects

  • Strong experience in:

  • HVAC systems and facility infrastructure

  • Airflow and pressurization systems

  • Building Management Systems (BMS)

  • Proven ability to take over active projects and drive execution independently

  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and external partners

  • Hands-on, field-oriented mindset (not a desk-only role)

  • Experience in a regulated or manufacturing environment

  • Strong communication, professionalism, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cGMP, pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, or food manufacturing
  • Prior experience with commissioning/startup activities
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD for reviewing/modifying layouts
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or similar tools
  • Experience in continuous improvement or Lean methodologies

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr.
