Summary
The Project Engineer assists the field project team in conjunction with the General Superintendent and Project Manager to hold budgets at a 10% or greater margin and implement strategies to achieve or surpass the goals with zero safety incidents. The Project Engineer also assists with monthly revenue projections, the job start-up process, creating accurate budgets, documenting project issues, accurately projecting cost to complete, monitoring the overall performance of projects, and performing postmortems for each project under their scope of work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- RFIs
- Document and report RFIs that the field finds.
- Review issued RFIs for changes in scope that will incur costs.
- Submittals
- Update the submittal log
- Prepare standard miscellaneous submittals
- Send submittal requests to concrete and reinforcing
- Coordinate and transmit submittals between the vendor, project manager, and client.
- Overlays/Change Order Preparation
- Overlay updated drawings and find changes.
- Input costs into the workbook from new takeoff and inform project manager of changes.
- Field phone calls from the superintendents and subcontractors
- Follow up with superintendents regarding project manager requests.
- Obtain information from subs regarding work completed.
- Job Site visits and Inspections
- Visit each job weekly as required and verify that installed work matches marked drawings from the field.
- Develop a relationship with the field by visiting the site and discussing the project scope.
- Drone Operation & Site Progress Tracking
- Operate drones to capture aerial imagery and data for project progress, site mapping, and inspections.
- Process drone-collected data: produce orthomosaics, 3D models, volumetric data, and annotated site maps.
- Analyze and communicate these outputs in clear, accurate reports for project teams.
- Ensure drone operations follow safety protocols and regulatory compliance (FAA Part-107, site-specific rules).
- Maintain drone hardware and software; perform pre- and post-flight checks and troubleshoot issues.
- Quality Control
- Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections with required documentation.
- Manage QC checklists for all concrete scopes and verify compliance.
- Oversee testing (slump, air, temperature) and monitor 7/28 day break results.
- Monitor placement, square footage, and aesthetic quality of in-place work.
- Ensure corrective actions and punch list completion.
- Support as-built documentation and coordination with surveyors.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and quality control teams to verify compliance with slab finishing requirements.
- Identify and communicate non-conformance issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
- Assist in the project setup
- When the project is handed off, add takeoffs to our files.
- Gather subcontractor information for the project manager.
- Set up project spreadsheets for the project manager to review.
- Track labor
- The long-term goal is to use a labor tracking Excel form that must be updated weekly from Exact Time.
- The project engineer would take the weekly reports and upload the data into the spreadsheet to see what kind of production we are getting on the projects.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or construction science and 1 to 3 years of experience in the construction industry is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of various construction disciplines and safety regulations and how to apply them.
- OSHA 30-hour certification, highly preferred.
- Understanding of cost management processes, planning, and scheduling.
- Practical written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical and mathematical skills for data collection and analysis.
- Ability to prepare professional reports and communicate results to stakeholders.
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have reliable transportation to the workplace.
- Ability to pass drug screening.
- Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience working in construction for a self-performing general contractor or Commercial Concrete Contractor.
- CIM (Concrete Industry Management) Degree
- Prior experience in construction quality assurance or concrete finishing.
- Familiarity with laser scanning, surveying equipment, or digital QA/QC tools.

Work Environment & Physical Demand
This position works in an office environment, occasionally traveling to the field to supervise projects as required. This position requires long periods of sitting.
Position Type, Travel, and Work Schedule
- This is a full-time office position with considerable time spent in the field on job sites.
- Typical travel and visiting jobs in DFW should be expected. Limited occasional travel outside of the state may occur.
- Work Schedule: This role follows a standard full-time schedule; however, additional hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines. Due to construction-related demands, the position requires flexibility to work non-typical days and irregular hours. The role also requires availability to respond to phone calls outside of standard business hours.
