Project Engineer - Mechanical (Industrial)

Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Project Engineer with strong industrial and mechanical experience to support capital projects within a manufacturing environment. This role operates in an owner's representative capacity, with active involvement in both design and project execution across the full lifecycle, from pre-FEED through commissioning and startup.
The ideal candidate brings a balance of technical depth and project leadership, with the ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced EPCm environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support projects across the full lifecycle, including pre-FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning
- Actively contribute to mechanical design and engineering for industrial facilities
- Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls
- Ensure alignment with Stage-Gate / Front-End Loading (FEL) processes and identify gaps in engineering deliverables
- Apply and ensure compliance with industry codes and standards including ASME, ASME B31.3, ASHRAE, building and fire codes
- Integrate competing priorities to ensure smooth project planning and execution
- Collaborate with project controls and support functions on mid to large TIC capital projects ($1M-$400M)
- Develop a clear understanding of contracts and subcontracts to support execution
- Serve as a company representative with clients and subcontractors during project execution
- Support scope management, including negotiating changes and managing change orders
- Assist in developing and maintaining project baselines (cost, schedule, scope)
- Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective action plans
- Lead weekly project status meetings and track key milestones
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, cost, and productivity standards
- Support business development efforts and help secure additional work
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical or industrial project engineering
- Experience supporting capital projects in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Strong background in MEP systems, including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, and plumbing
- Proven ability to manage projects while remaining hands-on technically
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Broad technical and business understanding of project execution
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Experience in EPCm or owner's representative roles
- Experience supporting large-scale capital programs
