Project Engineer

The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of residential and commercial restoration and reconstruction projects by coordinating project activities, managing documentation, assisting Project Managers, and ensuring projects move efficiently through each phase of construction.

The Project Engineer is responsible for actively driving project execution by coordinating vendors, subcontractors, permits, inspections, schedules, and project deliverables.

This position serves as a bridge between the office, field teams, subcontractors, and Project Managers to help ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Coordination

• Assist Project Managers with day-to-day project execution.
• Coordinate project activities from contract signing through final completion.
• Track project schedules, milestones, and critical deadlines.
• Maintain project documentation and ensure required information is complete and accurate.
• Monitor project progress and proactively identify potential delays or obstacles.
• Coordinate material orders, deliveries, and procurement activities.
• Assist with budget tracking and cost monitoring.

Permitting & Compliance

• Prepare and submit permit applications.
• Coordinate inspections with municipalities and third-party inspectors.
• Track permit statuses and inspection approvals.
• Maintain project compliance documentation.
• Coordinate engineering, architectural, and code-related requirements.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

• Schedule subcontractors and vendors.
• Confirm work completion and readiness for subsequent trades.
• Assist with obtaining bids and scope reviews.
• Track subcontractor commitments and project timelines.
• Coordinate access, site logistics, and project requirements.

Construction Administration

• Maintain project files and documentation.
• Process change orders and project-related paperwork.
• Prepare project status reports.
• Track open issues and punch list items.
• Assist in documenting project progress through photos and reports.

Field Support

• Conduct periodic site visits.
• Verify project progress and completion percentages.
• Assist with quality control inspections.
• Identify and communicate project concerns to Project Managers.
• Support project closeout activities and final inspections.

Internal Coordination

• Work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Estimators, File Managers, and Accounting.
• Ensure project information is communicated accurately across departments.
• Assist in maintaining company project management systems and records.
• Participate in project meetings and status reviews.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or related field preferred.
• Equivalent construction industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience

• 1-5 years of construction, restoration, project coordination, or project engineering experience preferred.
• Experience with insurance restoration projects is a plus.
• Familiarity with permitting, inspections, and subcontractor coordination preferred.
