The Project Engineer works closely with regional leadership, contractors, and municipal stakeholders while enjoying a blend of office and field work and a clear path for professional growth within a growing national real estate organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review and prioritize projects from approved capital expenditure (CapEx) plans to ensure alignment with organizational goals and timelines.
  • Coordinate engineering studies, permitting activities, design reviews, and construction execution across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Monitor project schedules and proactively identify and address delays, risks, and budget concerns to keep projects on track.
  • Travel regularly to communities for site inspections, project meetings, and coordination with local stakeholders.
  • Attend planning board meetings, zoning hearings, and public meetings as needed to support project approvals and community engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with managers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to resolve disputes and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Partner closely with Regional Managers to identify project priorities, operational needs, and opportunities for infrastructure and community improvements.
  • Support construction administration activities, including reviewing plans, coordinating field changes, and ensuring compliance with design and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute engineering expertise to projects involving roadway upgrades, utility improvements, community expansions, and water/wastewater systems.
  • Maintain organized project documentation, reports, and correspondence using standard office software and engineering tools.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Foundational knowledge of water systems, pumping systems, utility infrastructure, and construction administration.
  • Experience or training in project engineering, project management, or construction-related engineering work.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and other standard office software for documentation, reporting, and project tracking.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective project management abilities, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating cross-functional activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with managers, contractors, municipal officials, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites and perform field inspections safely and effectively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in civil engineering, municipal engineering, roadway design or construction, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Background in construction administration and project coordination for capital or infrastructure projects.
  • Exposure to or interest in water and wastewater systems, utility improvements, and community expansion projects.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Bluebeam is preferred and considered an advantage.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) experience or credentials are beneficial.
  • Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative engineering team and contribute to a growing national organization.
  • Comfort presenting at or supporting planning board meetings, zoning hearings, and other public or municipal forums.

Work Environment

The role offers a combination of office and field-based work within a growing national real estate organization focused on community and infrastructure development. You will split your time between office tasks such as design review, documentation, and coordination, and field activities including site visits, construction inspections, and meetings with local stakeholders. The current engineering team consists of approximately nine professionals, providing a collaborative environment with direct access to experienced colleagues and leadership. You will frequently travel to assigned communities, construction sites, municipal offices, and project meetings, and you must be comfortable walking active construction sites and performing field inspections.
