We are seeking a Project Engineer to support major capital projects within the NIPSCO organization. This role involves working closely with project managers, construction teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful execution of complex engineering and construction projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical, analytical, and coordination skills, along with experience in industrial or power generation projects.
Provide on-site support (5 days/week minimum) for project execution
Assist construction management teams with daily field operations
Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with engineering plans, specifications, and safety standards
Analyze project drawings, technical specifications, and quality requirements
Ensure contract compliance for scope, cost, schedule, and quality
Monitor contractor performance and track project milestones
Maintain and update project schedules in coordination with project managers
Track, analyze, and report project costs, income, and productivity metrics
Review and approve invoices and progress billings
Prepare and maintain project reports, schedules, and documentation
Support preparation of RFIs (Requests for Information) and NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports)
Maintain organized project files and correspondence
Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and action logs
Assist in executive reporting and project presentations
Develop and implement quality control procedures
Ensure compliance with contract requirements and safety standards
Conduct audits and monitor quality performance
Coordinate corrective actions for non-compliance issues
Act as liaison between stakeholders on quality-related matters
Assist in procurement, logistics, and material tracking
Support project scheduling and forecasting activities
Assist Project Manager with change orders, claims, and commercial activities
Support cost control and budget management efforts
Participate in problem-solving and issue resolution
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
3–5+ years of experience in construction, engineering, or project management
Experience working on large, complex projects
Knowledge of multiple disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, etc.)
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Strong attention to detail and work ethic
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience in power generation projects (combined cycle or simple cycle plants)
Experience in heavy industrial construction
General contracting experience
Active construction jobsite (project duration 2+ years)
Requires on-site presence and flexibility in working hours based on project needs
