Project Engineer I / II / III – New Power Generation ConstructionPosition may be filled at Project Engineer Level I, II, or III based on qualifications and experience.Job SummaryThe Project Engineer supports the engineering and construction execution of large‑scale power generation projects within the Generation Electric Projects & Construction organization, with a primary focus on mega projects supporting data center infrastructure. This role is responsible for managing engineering activities across the project life cycle, from conceptual engineering through detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and transition to operations. The Project Engineer applies engineering project management principles to ensure engineered products are safe, constructible, cost‑effective, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget objectives. This position works closely with Project Managers, project controls, internal stakeholders, Architect/Engineer (AE) firms, subject matter experts, and contractors to drive engineering quality, mitigate risk, and support overall project success. Candidates will be hired at Project Engineer I, II, or III level depending on experience, technical depth, and leadership capability.Core Responsibilities (All Levels)Promotes and ensures a safe working environment in both office and field settingsManages engineering scope and supports detailed design through all phases of the project life cycleApplies engineering project management practices during conceptual engineering, detailed design, constructability reviews, change control, testing, acceptance, and transition to operationsSupports development and decomposition of product scope into a constructible project scope, including WBS definition, validation, and controlEnsures engineering deliverables meet company standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirementsMonitors engineering contractor and AE firm performance for scope, schedule, cost, and qualityCoordinates engineering reviews, document control, and drawing reviews with internal stakeholdersApplies product and project risk management techniques to reduce technical, schedule, and cost riskSupports project cost development, forecasting, and engineering input to capital estimatesWorks closely with the Project Manager and project controls team to support schedule, cost, and change managementEffectively communicates engineering status, issues, and performance metrics to project leadershipUtilizes engineering and project management tools, PMIS, and performance dashboards to monitor progressAssists with RFIs, technical resolutions, and engineering issue close‑outLevel DifferentiationProject Engineer IRole Focus: Learning, technical execution support, and foundational project engineering.Applies fundamental engineering principles and standard procedures under supervisionSupports engineering document development, reviews, and coordinationAssists with constructability reviews and design issue resolutionDevelops working knowledge of PMI / PMBOK and company project management processesRequires close guidance from senior engineers or the Project ManagerProject Engineer IIIndependently manages defined portions of engineering scope on assigned projectsLeads coordination with AE firms and internal stakeholders for assigned deliverablesEvaluates engineering options, technical risks, and recommends solutionsManages engineering inputs to project cost, schedule, and risk reviewsDemonstrates increasing leadership, communication, and decision‑making capabilityProject Engineer IIIProvides technical leadership for large, complex, or high‑visibility power generation projectsLeads and coordinates engineering activities across multiple disciplines and firmsMentors and provides technical guidance to Project Engineer I and II staffServes as a key engineering advisor to Project Managers and senior stakeholdersApplies advanced engineering judgment to optimize design, cost, constructability, and scheduleDrives continuous improvement and engineering best practices across the organizationRequired QualificationsProject Engineer IBachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited university or international equivalentProject Engineer IIBachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET‑accredited university or international equivalentMinimum 4–7 years of engineering experience in utility, construction, or industrial environmentsProject Engineer IIIBachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from ABET‑accredited university or international equivalentMinimum 10+ years of engineering experience in utility‑based or power generation environmentsAll LevelsKnowledge of standard computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Proficiency in project management principlesAbility to work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholdersStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work in adverse field conditions, including elevation, weather, and industrial environmentsAbility to travel as required to support project goalsValid in‑state driver's license upon hirePreferred QualificationsExperience with electric transmission, distribution, or power generation facilitiesExperience working at generating stations or major capital project organizationsAdvanced knowledge of fossil, hydro, and/or renewable power generation systemsProject Management Professional (PMP) certification or active pursuitExpressed interest or demonstrated potential for future project or people leadership rolesPhysical DemandsThis role requires periodic field presence at construction sites, including exposure to noise, weather, elevated platforms, confined spaces, and industrial environments.
