Summary:

Responsibilities:

  • Function as the Lead Responsible Engineer for planning, scoping, and technical evaluation of plant configuration changes, ensuring alignment with nuclear safety, regulatory requirements, and station goals.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and approval of engineering design documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications in accordance with plant procedures and industry standards.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, civil/structural, I&C) of internal and external engineering teams to ensure design completeness and technical accuracy.
  • Oversee vendor/manufacturer development of fabrication details to ensure components meet design requirements, QA/QC standards, and nuclear procurement specifications.
  • Support installation planning, including work instructions, field work packages, constructability reviews, and outage scheduling reviews.
  • Provide field engineering support during installation to ensure technical issues are resolved promptly and design intent is maintained.
  • Manage configuration control, ensuring changes are implemented in accordance with station modification processes and regulatory requirements (e.g., 10 CFR 50.59, plant design basis).
  • Lead or support testing and commissioning activities, including development of test plans, acceptance criteria, and postmodification testing execution.
  • Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Licensing, and Work Management to ensure stakeholder alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the Project Manager with accurate schedules of engineering activities and management of project risks, escalating issues and recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, design review packages, and justification documents to internal stakeholders, safety committees, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure all engineering activities adhere to nuclear safety culture principles, human performance tools, and station procedures.
  • Support the turnover of completed modifications, including asbuilt documentation, configuration updates, training materials, and longterm equipment ownership transitions.
  • Provide onsite engineering support as needed during refueling or forced outages.

Requirements:

  • BS or BE Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering or related technical degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of related engineering experience in a nuclear power plant or for a related support vendor.
  • Documented completion of engineering fundamentals and systems training at a US commercial nuclear power plant.
  • Documented qualification as the responsible engineer under the Nuclear Energy Institute Standard Design Process, IP-ENG-001.
  • Documented qualification in preparing/reviewing design analysis calculations for nuclear configuration and design basis control.
  • Previous experience preparing/reviewing test plans for installation testing and commissioning of equipment configuration changes.
  • Ability to independently multi-task and resolve conflicting priorities.
  • Availability for shift work during project installation work windows.
  • Must meet and maintain federal requirements for unescorted access to the nuclear facility, including random alcohol and drug testing, including marijuana.
  • Must meet and maintain federal requirements for access to 10CFR810 export controlled information.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous power uprate experience at a US commercial nuclear facility.
  • Previous experience with engineering software modeling tools (e.g., Gothic, Retran, Proto-flo, Fathom, Proto-HX, AutoPipe, ME101).
  • Professional Engineer’s License in NJ or other state.
  • Master’s Degree of Science or Engineering in a related discipline.
  • Previous experience with SAP computerized maintenance management system.
