OVERVIEW:

The Project Engineer supports the planning, design, implementation, and continuous improvement of distribution, fulfillment, and automation projects across the supply chain network. Working under the direction of the Senior Project Engineer, this role provides technical, analytical, and coordination support while gaining exposure to capital projects, material handling systems, and operational process design.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

MHE/Facility Design Support

  • Develop working knowledge of DSG design criteria and operating requirements to inform MHE and facility design decisions.

  • Design MHE and facility layouts incorporating flow, capacity, constructability, and operational process considerations.

  • Evaluate distribution and automation technologies and assess applicability to facility design, project objectives, and site constraints.

  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, layout packages, and engineering deliverables to support RFPs, vendor selection, and project execution.

  • Review design packages for construction and installation sequencing; support resolution of construction-phase technical issues, including RFIs and design clarifications.

  • Partner with general contractors, subcontractors, and MHE vendors to ensure installation aligns with engineering drawings, specifications, and integration requirements across facility and automation systems.

  • Perform field validation of installed systems and support punch list closure to confirm design intent, system integration, and operational readiness prior to go-live.

Distribution/Fulfillment Capital Project Support

  • Execute assigned tasks for approved capital projects across distribution and fulfillment centers, including engineering coordination, documentation updates, and site support activities.

  • Partner with Project Management and Capital Projects teams on planning, schedule coordination, installation readiness and turnover activities.

  • Collaborate with Operations to document current-state processes, support implementation planning, and minimize operational disruptions.

  • Assist with updating facility layouts, engineering documentation, and conceptual designs related to capital improvements, retrofits, and equipment installations.

  • Provide on-site support during installation, commissioning, and turnover phases.

Continuous Improvement & Professional Development

  • Identify, analyze, and document opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, or technology enhancements.

  • Support development of brownfield improvement concepts, including data collection, layout options, preliminary engineering analysis, and impact assessments.

  • Maintain and update facility AutoCAD drawings as required.

  • Participate in site visits, quarterly business reviews, and cross-functional working sessions.

  • Pursue professional development through stretch assignments, project exposure, and hands-on learning across various disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)

  • 5-7 years experience

  • Autodesk Software (AutoCAD, Navisworks)

  • Construction tools (Bluebeam Revu, Procore)

  • Project Planning tools (SharePoint/OneDrive, etc.)

  • Development of standard documents and procedures

  • Distribution planning models

  • Knowledge of distribution design preferred

  • Familiar with retail distribution and logistics environment

  • Previous experience working with general contractors, their subcontractors, and owner's representatives desired

  • Understanding of construction project workflows and coordination practices
