Job Description

This Project Engineer role offers the opportunity to be the organizational hub of large, complex construction projects, including commercial and data center-related work. You will support project delivery from both the field and the office, helping ensure that projects are executed safely, on budget, and on schedule. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys coordinating many moving parts, and is looking to build a long-term career in construction management.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers with the day-to-day administration and coordination of construction projects.
• Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and all relevant project correspondence to ensure timely responses and accurate documentation.
• Assist with material tracking, including monitoring delivery schedules and coordinating with vendors to keep materials flowing to the job site as needed.
• Maintain comprehensive project logs, meeting minutes, schedules, and document control systems to keep the project team informed and aligned.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to support timely completion of project milestones and help resolve sequencing or coordination issues.
• Support budget tracking, forecasting, and cost reporting efforts to help maintain financial control and visibility throughout the project lifecycle.
• Participate in project meetings, capture key decisions and action items, and help communicate follow-up tasks to all stakeholders.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation to support field operations and administrative processes.
• Contribute to the overall safety, quality, and schedule performance of the project by proactively identifying issues and assisting in their resolution.

Essential Skills

• 1-5 years of construction experience in roles such as Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Field Engineer, Project Controls Coordinator, Cost Engineer, Assistant Superintendent on a project management track, or Owner's Representative Coordinator.
• Experience supporting commercial, industrial, manufacturing, data center, energy, or other large-scale construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation, with the ability to interpret and apply them in the field and office.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and communication.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills, including the ability to maintain detailed logs, schedules, and records in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues, propose solutions, and support timely decision-making.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management and document control software is a plus.
• Experience in civil work, underground utilities, and large-scale site development is beneficial.
• Interest in pursuing a project management career path within construction, particularly from roles such as Assistant Superintendent or Field Engineer.
• Comfort working both in the field and in an office setting, adapting to changing project needs and environments.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting and contribute to a culture focused on safety, quality, and project success.

Work Environment

This role is based on a large-scale construction site in a very remote area near Abilene, Texas, supporting major data center-related man camp projects with significant civil work, underground utilities, and extensive site infrastructure. The project environment is rugged and outdoors, characterized by dusty conditions, heat, and the presence of insects, requiring comfort with working in challenging field conditions for extended periods. You will work on high-value projects, including those in the $150M-$250M range, as part of a team delivering complex ground-up construction. The setting combines field work on active construction sites with office-based coordination and documentation, using standard construction technologies and software to manage schedules, budgets, and project information.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vernon, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $61.25 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
