Project Environmental Manager

Location: Semora, NC
Job Type: Contract-to-Possible Direct Hire

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Environmental Manager to lead environmental compliance efforts for a high-profile Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project in Semora, North Carolina. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring environmental compliance throughout all phases of construction while providing strategic direction, oversight, and mentorship to the project environmental team.

The successful candidate will work closely with project leadership, field operations, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to integrate environmental compliance into daily construction activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall environmental compliance program for a large-scale EPC construction project.
  • Develop and implement project environmental strategies, execution plans, and compliance initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to site environmental professionals.
  • Ensure effective risk management, planning, and execution of all environmental and contractual requirements.
  • Assign and oversee daily activities of the site environmental team.
  • Prepare and review environmental management plans, permit applications, regulatory reports, and client documentation.
  • Conduct and oversee environmental inspections and maintain accurate compliance documentation.
  • Interpret and apply project-specific environmental permits, plans, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of environmental controls and recommend improvements where needed.
  • Partner with field operations to promote environmental awareness, improve compliance processes, and ensure consistency with project requirements.
  • Serve as the primary environmental liaison with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing environmental compliance within the construction industry.
  • At least 2 years of direct supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permitting processes, and construction compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental programs on complex construction projects.
  • Experience working directly with clients, regulatory agencies, and multiple project stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports, regulatory documentation, and client deliverables.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
  • Experience leading environmental compliance on large industrial, energy, infrastructure, or heavy construction projects.
