Project Executive - HVAC Position Overview As Project Executive - HVAC at a Modigent operating company, you will provide senior leadership for the financial performance and operational excellence of construction, project management, and project administration activities within an assigned market sector or business unit. You will lead a team of Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and related staff to deliver exceptional quality, safety, and customer service on commercial HVAC and mechanical projects. Working closely with executive leadership, you will drive profitable growth, operational discipline, and long-term client relationships. Duties and Responsibilities Financial Leadership - Achieve financial targets for the assigned market sector or business unit.
- Accurately forecast business unit results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Prepare and manage annual budgets for the business unit.
- Track project portfolio budgets, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure accurate cost-to-complete projections.
- Drive profitability through proactive cost control, change management, and value creation.
Operations Leadership - Provide oversight and strategic direction for all project management and field operations activities.
- Review bid documents, drawings, and schedules to identify risks, opportunities, and constructability issues before project start.
- Partner with preconstruction and operations teams to ensure project goals and milestones are met.
- Attend key coordination, site, and monthly project review meetings focused on schedule, safety, quality, and profitability.
- Ensure strict adherence to budgetary guidelines, quality standards, contractual requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain rigorous documentation of scope changes, cost impacts, and project decisions.
Quality Assurance - Ensure work quality meets or exceeds industry standards.
- Oversee Quality Assurance processes to minimize callbacks and warranty exposure.
- Participate in client job-site walks to confirm satisfaction and address issues proactively.
Client & Subcontractor Relationships - Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with current and future clients, architects, engineers, owners, and general contractors.
- Develop and strengthen subcontractor relationships to support growth and project success.
- Initiate new project opportunities and ensure consistent, professional communication across the project team.
People Leadership - Lead, develop, and mentor Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and support staff.
- Set clear objectives and goals for team members; track progress and support career development.
- Recruit, interview, and hire high-caliber talent; nominate individuals for promotion.
- Create and promote a culture of open communication, collaboration, and accountability.
Safety - Ensure all company and project-specific safety requirements are met.
- Review safety reports and jobsite observations; drive a strong safety culture across all projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities Yes – Direct leadership of Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and project support staff. Full accountability for team performance, development, and succession planning. Requirements/Qualifications - Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive experience in commercial construction with significant responsibility for the total execution of large mechanical/HVAC projects. Proven experience managing Project Managers, Superintendents, and project support staff.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with regular job site visits and travel as required.
- Work Environment/Safety: Professional office and active construction environments. This is a safety-sensitive leadership position.
Required Skills - Advanced knowledge of commercial construction estimating, means and methods, project accounting, and administration.
- Strong financial acumen and ability to manage P&L performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative cultures and maintain the highest standards of integrity.
- Proven track record of delivering profitable, high-quality projects while developing high-performing teams.
