The Project Executive is a senior, hands-on leader responsible for the successful execution of multiple commercial HVAC and/or plumbing projects. This role requires deep field experience, the ability to actively engage in jobsite operations, and sound judgment to make critical, time-sensitive decisions that keep work moving safely, efficiently, and profitably. The Project Leader also supports business development within assigned clients, markets, or geographic areas.
Provide direct oversight and leadership for two or more active projects, maintaining regular presence in the field
Plan, organize, and staff key field positions in coordination with the Director of Construction and project/labor managers
Establish clear project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards in alignment with company guidelines
Actively monitor field operations and personnel performance; coach, develop, and address employee relations matters as needed
Serve as a primary point of contact with owners, architects, engineers, and inspectors to support construction progress and future business opportunities
Directly oversee construction execution through on-site superintendents to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget
Identify issues early, assess risk, and implement corrective actions promptly when safety, quality, schedule, or cost concerns arise
Represent the company in project meetings, negotiations, and strategy discussions
Manage the financial performance of assigned projects, including contract compliance, cost control, forecasting, and cash flow
Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, customers, subcontractors, and vendors; promote positive morale on active jobsites
Coordinate with internal departments (preconstruction, sales, safety, purchasing, CAD/BIM, and fabrication) to:
Develop and maintain plans and schedules
Evaluate vendor pricing and procure equipment and materials
Scope subcontracted work and issue subcontracts
Align fabrication schedules with field needs
Prepare revenue forecasts, schedules of values, cash flow projections, and other required financial analyses
Identify scope changes, develop pricing, and submit change order proposals in a timely manner
When necessary, develop and execute recovery plans for projects experiencing safety, quality, productivity, or schedule challenges
Distribute required closeout documentation to subcontractors
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of formal training and hands-on construction experience
10+ years of experience in mechanical construction with demonstrated expertise in field operations, project management, and financial oversight
Proven ability to lead from the field and make sound, timely decisions under pressure
Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC and/or plumbing systems and construction practices
Ability to apply effective management techniques to drive productivity, safety, and quality
Solid understanding of industry standards, processes, and their impact on active construction work
Strong business acumen with the ability to balance operational execution and client relationships
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and lead diverse teams
Ability to work overtime as required by project demands
Local travel required; overnight travel is typically minimal
Experience working with BIM processes
Prior experience using construction management software platforms
Prior military experience
