Position Summary We are seeking a technically skilled
Project & field Engineer to support the design, implementation, configuration, commissioning, and technical support of smart building, IoT, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) systems. This role combines computer technology, networking, PoE infrastructure, connected devices, system configuration, and field commissioning. The engineer will work throughout the project lifecycle-from design review and system architecture through deployment, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and project closeout.
Prior experience and knowledge of networking and computer technology is required. Experience with smart lighting, IoT, building automation, networked controls, or other IP-based systems is highly desirable. Experience with
Molex CoreSync Smart Building solutions is preferred but not required.
Required Qualifications- Prior technical experience and strong working knowledge of computer systems, networking, or IP-based technologies.
- Strong understanding of Ethernet networking and TCP/IP fundamentals.
- Experience working with network-connected devices and managed Ethernet switches.
- Working knowledge of VLANs, IP addressing, DHCP, access ports, trunk ports, and Layer 1/Layer 2 troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Cisco IOS and/or IOS XE for switch configuration, verification, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of Power over Ethernet (PoE) technologies.
- Ability to calculate and validate PoE power budgets and evaluate switch, port, and power-supply capacity.
- Familiarity with IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at, and 802.3bt PoE standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot computer, network, software, device communication, and system configuration issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical Electrical and Electronics documentation, network diagrams, construction drawings, specifications, and riser diagrams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with project teams, field personnel, customers, and IT departments.
- Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and manufacturer platforms.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Molex CoreSync Smart Building solutions.
- Molex CoreSync manufacturer training or certification.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Smart lighting or networked lighting control systems
- Internet of Things (IoT) systems
- Smart building technologies
- Building automation or control systems
- PoE-powered devices and systems
- Other IP-based low-voltage or connected building technologies
- Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst switches.
- Cisco certification or equivalent practical networking experience.
- Experience configuring and commissioning network-connected systems.
- Experience working on commercial construction, retrofit, or modernization projects.
Education & Experience- Associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, information technology, computer technology, networking, electrical systems, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience, manufacturer training, technical certifications, or demonstrated technical competency may be considered in place of a formal degree.
