Project Finance Lead (Construction)
Baker Flooring | Northern California
We are hiring a cash flow operator.
Baker Flooring is a growing construction company doing ~$10M in annual revenue. We are looking for someone to step in as the senior-most finance function and take ownership of how money moves through the business.
This is not a back-office role.
You will directly impact cash flow, project execution, and the company’s ability to scale.
What You Will Own
Billing & Collections (Primary)
- Own all project billing cycles (progress billing, T&M, milestones)
- Prepare and submit AIA billing (G702 / G703)
- Manage retention and contract billing requirements
- Drive collections with GCs, owners, and clients
- Own AR aging and actively reduce outstanding balances
Cash Flow & Financial Operations
- Build and maintain a weekly and monthly cash flow forecast
- Create structure around billing timelines and collections cadence
- Identify gaps in how money is moving and fix them
- Ensure billing goes out on time, every time
Project Financial Control
- Partner with PMs on budget vs actual tracking
- Monitor cost to complete and flag risks early
- Align change orders with billing and cash recovery
- Bring financial discipline into project execution
AP & Compliance (Secondary)
- Process and validate vendor invoices tied to job cost
- Align payments with project cash flow
- Manage lien waivers and compliance documentation
What Good Looks Like
- Billing is consistent and predictable
- Collections are proactive, not reactive
- AR aging is controlled and improving
- PMs are aligned with financial discipline
- Leadership has clear visibility into cash
What You Bring
- 6–10+ years in construction or project accounting
- Strong experience with AIA billing, retention, and collections
- Experience working with contractors or specialty trades
- Systems experience (Sage, Viewpoint, Procore or similar)
- Ability to push internally and externally to get results
What Separates Top Candidates
- You have built or cleaned up financial systems, not just maintained them
- You understand how cash actually moves in construction
- You are comfortable holding PMs and clients accountable
- You prefer fast-moving environments over perfect ones
Compensation
- $110K – $125K base
- Discretionary Performance bonus tied to billing execution and collections
- Medical and Dental Benefits
Why This Role
This role operates as the senior-most finance function in the company today.
If you want to:
- Own outcomes instead of tasks
- Build structure, not just follow it
- Be directly tied to company growth
This is that opportunity.
