Project Geologist

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Project Geologist to join our Environmental team in Knoxville, Tennessee. Join us at S&ME!
As a Project Geologist, you will be responsible for all aspects of project execution, including communication with clients, business development, work plan and proposal preparation, project scheduling and deadline tracking, budget evaluation, analysis, and report preparation.
Your Day-to-Day:
Field Support: Performing field and office work associated with hydrogeological investigations, environmental evaluations, sampling, and other project support.
Field work will include drilling of soil borings; installation of monitoring wells; classification of soil and rock; in-situ permeability testing; soil, groundwater, and gas sampling for chemical analysis.
Environmental studies can include: Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, Phase II Environmental, leak detection monitoring, Industrial Hygiene, SPCC, stormwater discharge monitoring, SWPP design and visual assessments, Brownfields, and Brownfield grant writing and air permitting.
Stream and wetland delineation and mapping, protected species habitat assessments, potential installation of monitoring wells; identification of the soils encountered and determination of well construction; soil, groundwater, and soil gas sampling for chemical analysis; and other testing and sampling as may be required.
Inspection and Communication: Perform Construction, Geotechnical soil and rock identification, and Environmental inspections, and communication with vendors, as well as internal and external clients.
Staff Training and Support: Assist or train junior staff with field data collection and field observation tasks.
Project Management: Manages all aspects of routine projects with minimal oversight, including client communication, proposal preparation, scheduling, budgeting, and report authorship, while ensuring technical quality and adherence to standards. The role may lead field investigations, supervise junior staff, and provide technical expertise in specialized areas, aiming to become a local expert in their discipline. Additionally, responsibilities include business development, mentoring junior staff, and delivering high-quality technical computations, reports, and project solutions.
