Project Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Idaho (Hayden, Lewiston, Meridian) • Washington (Spokane Valley, Tri-Cities) • Montana (Missoula) Hybrid role – must reside within commuting distance of one of these office locations License Required: Professional Engineer (PE) – ID or WA (within 30 days)

Overview:

A well-established geotechnical consulting firm is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to manage and execute diverse subsurface investigations. This hybrid role includes technical analysis, project oversight, and team collaboration, with opportunities to contribute to mentoring and client-facing work.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Analysis
  • Lead geotechnical projects from start to finish, including proposals, field programs, lab coordination, and technical analysis.
  • Conduct evaluations for ground conditions, foundation design, slope stability, and seismic risk.
  • Review and refine technical reports developed by other engineering staff.
Project Management
  • Own the full project cycle: proposal, execution, reporting, client delivery.
  • Attend project kickoff and special inspection meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to clarify or adjust recommendations as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date project records and billing information.
  • Apply risk management best practices throughout project lifecycle.
Team Collaboration
  • Supervise and support junior engineers and field technicians when needed.
  • Mentor EIs/EITs and contribute to the technical growth of the team.
  • Coordinate with lab and field supervisors to ensure quality and efficiency.
Professional Engagement
  • Participate in relevant technical and industry organizations.
  • Stay informed on geotechnical trends and standards to support continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
  • BS in Civil Engineering required; MS in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Active PE license in Idaho or Washington, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • 5–10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering preferred.
  • Strong background in foundation design, soil mechanics, and technical reporting.
  • Familiarity with tools such as BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Bonus if experienced with SharePoint, OneDrive, Unanet CRM, or Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Work Environment:
  • Hybrid setup: mix of office, home, and field visits.
  • Fieldwork may involve various weather conditions.
  • Occasional travel and flexibility required during busy periods.
