The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Technology Services Division in Helena.

Each Project Manager position is responsible for an area of project management through a framework of project planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure activities. Work involves managing project scope, schedule, and budget by applying project management principles and methods as defined in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

The Project Manager provides technical expertise to business analysts, division program personnel, and system owners to support the identification of accurate and complete business and functional system requirements. This position also reviews and provides feedback and recommendations regarding the quality and effectiveness of the deliverables submitted by contractors and supports the testing of solution components to validate that the business requirements are met.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Developed understanding of and experience with project definition and scoping; requirements definition; identification of key objectives, risks, and drivers; creating plans to manage those elements; and user non-user acceptance testing.

  • Ability to identify research and analyze issues relative to the role and prepare reports as necessary.

  • Skill and ability to develop and implement performance measures, standards, policies and procedures.

  • Skill and ability to build long-term internal and external relationships with customers critical to the organization.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare management, business, information technology, computer science, or related field is preferred.

  • Five or more years of job-related work experience.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired.

  • Knowledge of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

  • Experience with MS Project and/or other project management tools is preferred.

  • Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.

This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants.

This position is grant funded through June 2027.

Training Assignment: This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. 39.55 - 39.55 Hourly
