Description

Project Manager/Estimator
Chisago City, MN| Direct Hire | $90k - $160k

An established outdoor construction contractor with more than 25 years of industry experience is seeking a Project Manager/Estimator to support commercial landscape and irrigation projects. This position combines preconstruction estimating with hands-on project management, offering the opportunity to oversee work from initial bid development through final completion.

The Project Manager/Estimator will identify bidding opportunities, prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and estimates, coordinate vendors and subcontractors, and manage awarded projects through scheduling, procurement, closeout, and warranty. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented construction professional who understands how landscape and irrigation projects are built—not just how they look on a spreadsheet.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate commercial construction opportunities for bidding.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, addenda, and bid requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for commercial landscape, irrigation, turf, planting, hardscape, and related scopes.
  • Develop complete estimates using labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and historical cost information.
  • Solicit, analyze, and select vendor and subcontractor pricing.
  • Assemble bid items and prepare accurate, timely bid submissions.
  • Manage awarded projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • Coordinate project schedules, material procurement, field resources, subcontractors, owners, and general contractors.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, budgets, documentation, and upcoming milestones.
  • Manage punch lists, establishment periods, closeout requirements, and warranty obligations.
  • Maintain professional communication with owners, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and project partners.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of recent experience in a general contractor, specialty contractor, or similar construction environment.
  • Experience in construction estimating, project management, or a combination of both.
  • Commercial landscape and irrigation experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the construction bidding process and ability to prepare complete, competitive estimates.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Knowledge of landscape and irrigation installation methods, equipment, materials, and sequencing.
  • Familiarity with soils, plants, turfgrass, irrigation systems, and hardscape construction.
  • Ability to apply labor productivity, equipment hours, production rates, and historical cost data to estimates.
  • Experience soliciting and evaluating supplier and subcontractor proposals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel; experience with Bluebeam and Procore is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment.
  • High attention to detail with a consistent commitment to accuracy, professionalism, and ethical business practices.

Benefits

  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)
  • Paid Time Off
  • Short and Long Term disability
  • Voluntary Life Insurance
  • 401k with Employer Match / Contribution
