About the team and position

The Finance team at Carvana builds and optimizes in areas like our auto lending platform and broader financing/pricing strategy, ensuring customers get the right financing terms while we manage risk and profitability, and long-term financial growth (the goal is 3 million cars sold per year within the next 5-10 years!). We develop and maintain complex pricing, risk, cash flow, and profitability models; analyze auto finance market trends; and build the tools that incorporate all of these areas and make for a great customer experience. Overall, the team operates at the intersection of analytics, strategy, and engineering to make Carvana's financial engine run efficiently and profitably as we move toward our growth goals.

What you'll be doing

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will be responsible for managing all IT projects across all areas of the Finance lending business (Pricing, Credit, Payments, Underwriting, Loan Operations, etc). You must be detail-oriented, structured, and have effective communication skills with a proven track record of meeting deadlines. 

Requirements Analysis:

  • Ability to execute stakeholder analysis and identify key project decision makers
  • Ability to help small/large technical and non-technical teams navigate through ambiguity during project initiation
  • A skilled orator to lead highly matrixed teams through technical/nontechnical requirements sessions
  • Translate findings into S.M.A.R.T. project requirements for executive approval
  • Ability to create clean presentations and coordinate weekly team syncs

Project Planning and Analytics:

  • Develop detailed project plans with scopes and objectives based on executive approved requirements ensuring technical feasibility for all IT related projects.
  • Create applicable project CSFs/KPIs and manage/drive teams performance against measures

Financials:

  • Ability to develop project budgets based on resources and equipment costs
  • Provide financial forecasting models outlining planned vs actual spend for projects in flight
  • Manage financial risks associated with cost overruns and delays
  • Understand individual project unit economics to the broader organization

Other:

  • Lead IT applications change management process and SDLC for hybrid IT infrastructure involving both on-prem and cloud services.
  • Collaborate with leadership and business stakeholders to manage resources and ensure successful project delivery. 
  • Monitor all IT controls for SOX compliance and help manage policies and procedures for internal controls.
  • Provide timely updates on project progress across the IT organization and Carvana as a whole.
  • Work closely with our information security and business applications teams to manage enterprise-wide initiatives. 
  • Lead the charge in the development and expansion of Jira Software and other Atlassian tools.
  • Technical infrastructure and information security savviness is a plus
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you should have/know

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent work experience is acceptable.
  • At least 8+ years of experience in the IT field with 5+ years of experience in IT project management.
  • Experience working with the Atlassian Suite, especially JIRA and Confluence.
  • Proven ability to manage a large project load of up to 25 simultaneous projects.
  • Track record of working cross-functionally outside of IT with departments including accounting, engineering, real estate, property operations, and more.
  • A proven track record of communicating complex technical projects across both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Be available on an on-call basis during non-business hours for support and response.
  • Certifications in ITIL or PMP are a big plus.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
