Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking experienced Project Managers to lead and deliver strategic initiatives that support the Corporation's mission, operational objectives, and technology investments.
This role is responsible for mobilizing, planning, executing, and closing projects while ensuring alignment with organizational goals, established methodologies, budget expectations, and project timelines. Working closely with project sponsors, stakeholders, team members, and third-party vendors or consultants, you will provide leadership and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
This opportunity is ideal for professionals who enjoy leading cross-functional teams, driving organizational change, managing complex initiatives, and delivering measurable business results within a structured project management environment.
Candidates with deeper experience, broader project portfolios, and demonstrated leadership capabilities may be considered for higher-level classifications (Senior Project Manager or Principal Project Manager).
What You'll Do
As a Project Manager, you will play a key role in planning, executing, and delivering projects that support business operations, technology initiatives, and organizational priorities.
You will:
- Lead the development of project scope, objectives, deliverables, schedules, and success criteria aligned with business goals.
- Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, milestones, dependencies, and critical paths using established PMO methodologies and tools.
- Coordinate internal resources, project teams, third-party vendors, and consultants to ensure successful project execution.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, schedules, resource utilization, and vendor agreements to help ensure projects remain within scope, on time, and within budget.
- Proactively identify risks, issues, dependencies, and potential obstacles while developing mitigation and contingency plans.
- Manage project changes through established governance and change management processes.
- Facilitate project status meetings and provide regular updates to stakeholders, sponsors, and leadership.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including project charters, monthly status reports, executive summaries, requirements documents, testing documentation, change requests, and post-implementation reviews.
- Support monthly budget projections by providing project input and recommendations to management.
- Conduct post-project reviews and share lessons learned to support continuous improvement across the organization.
- Maintain project information and documentation within approved project management systems and repositories.
At advanced levels, this role may also:
- Lead large-scale, enterprise-wide initiatives with significant organizational impact.
- Manage complex portfolios of concurrent projects and strategic programs.
- Support and improve project planning, execution methodologies, governance processes, and PMO standards.
- Mentor, motivate, and guide project team members, contractors, and other project managers.
- Influence organizational change and executive-level decision-making through clear communication, sound judgment, and effective project leadership.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on project execution, risk management, resource planning, and strategic project delivery.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong project planning, organizational, execution, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, competing deadlines, and concurrent projects.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, interact with diverse personalities, and foster teamwork.
- Experience using Microsoft Project or similar project management tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Project Management Expertise
- Experience leading technology, operational, business process improvement, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing project scope, budgets, schedules, risks, issues, resources, dependencies, and change control.
- Experience with PMO governance practices, project documentation requirements, and established project management methodologies.
- Knowledge of Waterfall, Agile, Hybrid, or other proven project delivery approaches.
Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
- Strong facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, customer service, and emotional intelligence skills.
- Experience preparing status reports, proposals, requirements documentation, presentations, and executive-level project communications.
Industry Knowledge
- Knowledge of the electric utility industry is a plus.
- Understanding of regulated business environments and operationally critical systems is preferred.
Certifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired.
- Agile, Scrum, or other project management certifications are a plus.
Leveling Overview
- Project Manager - Experienced project professional with a minimum of three years of direct project management experience; independently manages projects of moderate complexity while following established methodologies and governance practices.
- Senior Project Manager - Advanced project leader with a minimum of six years of direct project management experience; manages larger or more complex initiatives while providing guidance and leadership across project teams and stakeholders.
- Principal Project Manager - Strategic project leader with a minimum of nine years of direct project management experience; oversees highly complex, enterprise-wide initiatives, advances project methodologies, and supports organizational project excellence.
