The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Project Manager III in the Capital Projects department. This department manages a variety of construction and infrastructure projects that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the city. The position will involve managing large, complex, and highly visible projects from inception to completion.
What you’ll be doing:- Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned staff.
- Provide expert technical advice to consultants, contractors, engineers, City staff, and the public.
- Plan and administer assigned infrastructure projects, prioritizing based on impact and return on investment.
- Serve as the project liaison with the public, City departments, and government agencies.
- Consult with City officials and administrators on project status, challenges, and recommendations.
- Manage administrative aspects of the project, including budgeting, scheduling, and permitting.
- Supervise contractors and work crews, ensuring compliance with contracts and specifications.
- Prepare and review project plans, designs, and engineering specifications.
- Communicate regularly with City administrators, officials, contractors, and the public to resolve project-related issues.

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or Landscape Architecture.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in project management, preferably in local government.
- Professional Engineer, Architect, or Landscape Architect license registered in the State of North Carolina, or eligibility to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
- Strong project management and leadership skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and staff.

Other things to know:- Work Schedule:Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with the option to exercise a flexible work schedule after the training period is complete.
