Project Manager – Mission-Critical/Electrical Construction

An established commercial general contractor is seeking a Project Manager to deliver technically complex construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning and final closeout. The company serves mission-critical, data center, financial, and commercial clients whose facilities require dependable electrical infrastructure and uninterrupted operations.

This position owns project schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client communication. The successful candidate will have commercial construction project-management experience and the ability to coordinate substantial electrical scopes. Experience with controls systems is highly desired.

Performance Objectives

• Deliver two to four concurrent projects valued between $2 million and $15 million on schedule, within 2% of the approved budget, and with zero lost-time incidents.
• Lead projects from preconstruction through closeout, resolving RFIs and submittals promptly and completing punch-list items within established deadlines.
• Protect project margins through disciplined estimating, buyout, procurement, cost control, value engineering, and change-order management.
• Coordinate long-lead electrical equipment to prevent procurement, delivery, installation, energization, or commissioning delays.
• Produce weekly look-ahead schedules, three-week field schedules, cost forecasts, and monthly owner reports.
• Coordinate electrical infrastructure with mechanical, structural, architectural, controls, fire-protection, security, and life-safety systems.
• Ensure electrical equipment, controls, and monitoring systems are installed, tested, documented, and commissioned according to project requirements.
• Maintain clear communication among owners, architects, engineers, commissioning providers, subcontractors, vendors, and field teams.
• Support superintendents and project engineers in improving field productivity, documentation, quality, and safety performance.
• Build client confidence and contribute to repeat and referral business through proactive communication and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage data center, mission-critical, financial, and technically complex commercial construction projects.
• Lead project planning, preconstruction, procurement, construction, commissioning, turnover, closeout, and warranty activities.
• Coordinate electrical scopes involving utility services, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, automatic transfer switches, grounding, power distribution, and emergency-power systems.
• Coordinate building controls, electrical controls, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLC-based systems, automation, and power-monitoring technologies when included in the project scope.
• Lead or participate in electrical and MEP coordination meetings.
• Review electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, control sequences, submittals, and construction documents.
• Identify design conflicts, constructability concerns, long-lead equipment risks, scheduling challenges, and potential change orders.
• Manage project budgets, forecasts, schedules, contracts, subcontractor commitments, pay applications, and cost reports.
• Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, procurement logs, meeting minutes, change orders, equipment documentation, and project records.
• Track electrical equipment from submittal and approval through manufacturing, delivery, installation, startup, testing, and commissioning.
• Coordinate energization plans, shutdowns, equipment startups, functional testing, integrated systems testing, and final turnover.
• Work closely with project superintendents to monitor field progress, resolve issues, maintain safety, and protect the project schedule.
• Maintain professional communication with clients and provide accurate reporting on project status, risks, costs, and schedule.
• Ensure closeout documents, testing records, as-built drawings, training materials, and warranty information are complete.

Position Environment

The Project Manager reports to senior operational leadership and works alongside a lean, experienced project team. The position receives support from dedicated field leadership, project engineers, preconstruction, estimating, and design-build resources.

The company provides Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling software, BIM resources, and other modern construction-management tools. Regional travel to active project sites is required.

Candidates currently located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area are especially desirable because a significant portion of the company’s current and anticipated work is located in that market.

Essential Qualifications

• At least five years of successful commercial construction experience as a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or Senior Project Engineer.
• Experience delivering projects or substantial project scopes with responsibility for schedule, cost, documentation, subcontractors, and client communication.
• Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, financial facilities, electrical construction, or similarly complex commercial projects.
• Working knowledge of electrical construction, power distribution, emergency power, and equipment installation.
• Ability to read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings, including electrical one-line diagrams.
• Experience coordinating electrical subcontractors, engineers, equipment vendors, commissioning providers, and field teams.
• Hands-on knowledge of scheduling, cost control, procurement, contract administration, and change-order management.
• Familiarity with AIA contracts, design-build delivery, CM-at-risk, or comparable contracting methods.
• Ability to walk active construction sites and communicate effectively with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and trades.
• Strong organization, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with construction project-management and scheduling software.

Highly Desired Experience

• Controls experience involving BMS, EPMS, SCADA, PLCs, electrical controls, automation, or critical-facility monitoring systems.
• Direct experience with data center construction, upgrades, expansions, or occupied-facility renovations.
• Experience coordinating switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, transfer systems, and electrical distribution equipment.
• Experience managing long-lead electrical equipment and critical procurement schedules.
• Familiarity with equipment startup, energization, functional testing, commissioning, and integrated systems testing.
• Experience completing electrical infrastructure upgrades while maintaining facility operations.
• Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, BIM coordination, and CPM scheduling.
• OSHA 30 and current first-aid/CPR certifications.
• LEED experience or other relevant professional certification.
