Position: Project Manager / Senior Project Manager Location: San Diego, CA
About the Role
seeking an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to lead mechanical construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role requires the ability to independently manage project scope, schedule, budget, and field coordination with minimal oversight, while working closely with clients, general contractors, and internal trade teams.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all phases of assigned mechanical construction projects, including pre-construction planning, procurement, scheduling, execution, and closeout.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop and maintain project budgets, tracking costs against estimates and identifying variances early.
Coordinate with the estimating and detailing/BIM teams to ensure design intent, fabrication, and field installation align with project requirements.
Manage project schedules, including sequencing of mechanical scope with other trades, and proactively resolve scheduling conflicts.
Review and process submittals, RFIs, change orders, and other project documentation.
Lead or participate in job-site and multi-trade coordination meetings, representing Mechanical's scope and interests.
Manage procurement of equipment and materials, ensuring timely delivery to support field schedules.
Supervise field superintendents and/or foremen on assigned projects, ensuring quality, safety, and schedule compliance.
Track project profitability and provide regular status updates/reporting to leadership.
Identify and mitigate project risks, resolving issues before they impact schedule or budget.
Support closeout documentation, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and warranty information.
Qualifications
5–10 years of experience in mechanical/HVAC construction project management, or a related construction management role.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently with minimal oversight.
Strong understanding of mechanical/HVAC systems, construction sequencing, and constructability.
Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and subcontractor/vendor relationships.
Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam) and general MS Office applications.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working directly with general contractors on commercial, industrial, or institutional projects preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
Valid driver's license; ability to travel to job sites as needed.
