Structural Steel Project Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Manager to oversee structural steel fabrication and erection projects from award through completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural steel construction, including detailing, fabrication, logistics, and field erection, while also possessing excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

This role requires an individual who can effectively manage project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and client expectations while serving as the primary point of contact between customers, field operations, fabrication teams, and company leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage structural steel projects from preconstruction through final closeout.
  • Coordinate with customers, engineers, architects, detailers, fabricators, and erection crews to ensure successful project execution.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and production timelines.
  • Review contracts, drawings, specifications, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Track project costs, billing, forecasting, and overall financial performance.
  • Monitor fabrication progress and coordinate material deliveries to job sites.
  • Work closely with field personnel to support erection activities and resolve project challenges.
  • Lead project meetings and maintain consistent communication with all stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues proactively to minimize project delays and cost impacts.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience within the structural steel industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Experience managing commercial, industrial, institutional, or miscellaneous steel projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications.
  • Understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and contract administration.
  • Experience coordinating fabrication shops, field operations, and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction/project management software.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Tekla, SDS/2, FabSuite, Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar industry software.
  • Knowledge of AISC standards and structural steel industry best practices.
