PROJECT MANAGER - WATER / WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS

Charlotte, NC (anywhere in North Carolina) | Full-time, direct hire

Schedule: Full-time, office and field, travel within the region as projects require

Pay: Up to $180,000 per year depending on experience

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A self-performing heavy civil general contractor with a large water and wastewater treatment plant portfolio across the Southeast is adding a Project Manager to its Civil and Environmental division. This is a self-perform shop: the company runs its own concrete crews, heavy equipment operators, pipe crews and electricians rather than subcontracting the physical work. You will own treatment plant projects from award through closeout: schedule, budget, procurement, subcontracts, owner and engineer relationships, and the profitability of the job.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Project management

- Create, update and manage the project schedule (Primavera P6 or similar)

- Develop the project budget on award and maintain the forecast through completion

- Prepare monthly billings and manage cash flow on the project

- Identify, document, price and negotiate change orders and extra work

- Coordinate and manage subcontractors and suppliers

- Review labor and cost reports; direct the Superintendent and crews on productivity

Engineering and procurement

- Know the specifications and communicate contract scope to the field

- Expedite material procurement and track approvals

- Manage submittals, material certifications, project files and drawings

- Approve invoices and vendor/subcontractor payments; manage subcontracts and purchase agreements

Client and team

- Build and maintain relationships with owners and engineers

- Deliver projects on time and on budget

- Monitor job site safety and administer company safety policy

- Develop Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers on the team

WHAT YOU NEED

- Experience as a Project Manager on water or wastewater treatment plant construction with a self-performing general contractor (a firm that employed its own concrete, equipment and electrical crews). This is a hard requirement.

- Must have performed the Project Manager role itself; an Assistant Project Manager ready to step up is not a fit for this position

- Four-year engineering or construction management degree, or equivalent experience

- Primavera P6 or similar scheduling software

- Demonstrated ability to manage treatment plant projects well above $5 million in contract value

- Superior communication and interpersonal skills

- Valid, non-restrictive driver's license

- 18 years of age or older, able to pass a drug test, legally eligible to work in the US

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Split between the project office and active heavy civil construction sites: treatment plants, concrete structures, process piping and heavy equipment. Projects located anywhere in North Carolina.
