Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this position provides high-level support in endowments and gift systems and policy analysis to Health Sciences Development and Alumni Relations donors as it relates to gift procurement, administration, and documentation. The Project Policy Analyst 3 will support the Gift Agreement and Endowment Coordinator, who is the subject matter expert, to frontline development staff as well as key stakeholders on the UC Davis Health Campus. HSDA has the largest endowment portfolio of any school or unit on the Davis Campus.

This position collaborates in providing oversight for approximately 700 endowments. Engages in a highly collaborative and customer-service oriented program to ensure that gift agreements and endowed fund expenditures comply with UC, UC Davis, UC Davis Foundation, and current laws by serving as a resource for information, analysis and reporting for internal constituents. This position recommends, collaborates and supports improvements to systems, methods, practices, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Donor Bill of Rights, CASE and ADRP donor relations and stewardship practices, and applying them to create and provide a best practice donor stewardship operations that are cost effective and sustainable.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding with recording and tracking financial data related to gifts, investing and managing endowments, and gift purposes and functions in higher education. Clear understanding of the components of investment returns, endowment spending, and stewardship best practices.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in analysis, data collection, data manipulation and synthesis into concise well-organized summaries, reports, policies, briefings, for donors, senior administration, leadership and faculty.
  • Ability to establish key relationships of trust and information exchange with colleagues, as well as faculty, business officers and university leadership, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Advanced skill in Windows Office Suite with significant emphasis on skill using Excel, data manipulation and interpretation; as well as moderate skill in query tools. Well-honed skills in the use of computers, and the creation and update of data electronically.
  • Ability to develop appropriate analytical and procedural framework, as well as advanced professional concepts and objectives to address and resolve complex policy or program issues.
  • Ability to plan, develop and implements new programs and organizational structure changes required by new policy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage cross-functional teams to develop process improvements both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly skilled in in all levels of project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Development experience in higher education preferably academic health care.
  • Experience working with gift policies and/or endowed fund administration.
  • Experience in a non-profit or fund-raising environment in writing gift agreements, contracts, or legal documents.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using a donor and prospect-tracking databases including Advance, GREAT.

Department Overview

The mission of Health Sciences Development and Alumni Relations (HSDA) is to foster a culture of philanthropy and secure financial resources to advance UC Davis Health's mission of improving lives and transforming health. HSDA is a hybrid and complex department involving units from both Hospital and School of Medicine, and partners closely with all centralized units across both campuses. The University launched an 8 year, $2 billion, campaign of which HSDA's objective is to secure $250 million for UC Davis Health. HSDA also provides leadership, support, and coordination in generating and sustaining philanthropic funding to UC Davis Health System's teaching, research, clinical, and public service fundraising priorities.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
