    Job Description

    This Limited Appointment will end 12 months from the start date.

    Involves the on-site administrative, research, facilities management and / or cultivation functions involved in establishing and maintaining field research sites / studies for a variety of disciplines (including environmental, public health, social and / or biological sciences). Field research sites / studies span a diverse range of domestic and international regions to support research activities.

    Department Overview

    This research is housed in the Institute for Health and Aging and the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the UCSF School of Nursing. The UCSF Institute for Health and Aging (IHA) was established as the Aging Health Policy Center by the School of Nursing in 1979 to foster multidisciplinary collaborative research, education, and public service in the fields of health policy and aging. In 1985, the Institute became an Organized Research Unit of the University of California and was re-designated as the IHA. Faculty at the Institute represent multiple disciplines and health professions, including sociology, psychology, anthropology, political science, economics, public administration, public health, social work, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and law. The research mission of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences is 1) to advance knowledge in nursing health policy and in sociology through theoretically-informed, methodologically rigorous qualitative and quantitative research; and 2) to examine the broad dynamics of health, healing, and the production of knowledge and technologies and their applications in these domains with special focus on inequalities.

    Salary Information

    The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

    Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor''s degree in a releated area such as sociology, anthropology, ethnic studies, women and gender studies, etc. and / or equivalent experience / training.
    • Minimum 1 year of related experience.
    • Working knowledge of social science research, community-based research methods and practice, abolition theory, and feminist theories and methods.
    • Working knowledge of state penal codes, local prison and jail contexts, and the advocacy landscape surrounding incarceration and health.
    • Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with community based research partners.
    • Demonstrates ability to work with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrates attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Prior experience collaborating with currently and formerly incarcerated people in research and/or training activities
    • Proficient research and analytical skills as evidenced by prior research publication(s)
    • Demonstrated communication skills with project team members.
    • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
    • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
    • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.

    • Works with project leaders to coordinate research activities, facilitate community partner invovlement in research activities, and track necessary approvals to access field research sites.

    • Supports team to establish procedures and logistics for community based resarch activities.
    • Assists with development of study protocols.

    Work closely with community-based researchers and help to coordinate community advisory council activities and research activities that take place outside of UCSF.

    Using subject matter knowledge, collects and prepares information for use in discussions, meetings of internal and external constituents.

    Assists with background research and literature review to support researchers.

    On a project basis, performs analytical studies on a variety of policies, research initiatives, programs and issues. Provides a variety of analytical duties in support of a function, research initiative, program and / or organizational unit.\

    • Support data collection, analysis, and dissemenation for research projects focused on the health and healthcare of incarcerated people.
