Job Title: Project R&D Engineer, Electromagnetics

Job Description:

The Project R&D Engineer, Electromagnetics is responsible for interpreting complex engineering requirements to devise and deliver optimal design solutions for sophisticated medical device components, showcasing advanced technical expertise, working under limited supervision. The role guides the development of robust test plans, procedures, and protocols to validate engineering designs, ensuring stringent compliance with high-quality and regulatory standards.

Your Role:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and program management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex electromagnetic systems, identify root causes, and develop effective technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience using advanced electromagnetic design and simulation tools such as Opera, ANSYS Maxwell, HFSS, Remcom, CST, or similar software to model and optimize electromagnetic systems.
  • Ability or willingness to develop custom software tools to support modeling, simulation, and data analysis, using languages such as C++, C#, or modern scripting languages like Python.
  • Experience interpreting simulation results and translating them into practical design improvements and engineering recommendations.

You are a fit if:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electromagnetics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with relevant experience, or experience with a Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience working with complex electromagnetic systems or superconducting magnet technologies is highly valued.
  • Experience with superconducting magnet design, operation, and component development, including coils, cryogenic systems, and supporting structures.
  • Knowledge of magnet stability and performance considerations in high-field applications is preferred.
  • Experience using magnetic materials to shape and optimize magnetic fields and improve system performance.
  • Ability to apply electromagnetic theory to real-world engineering challenges.
  • Experience performing quench propagation analysis and quench protection system design to ensure safe and reliable magnet operation.
  • Familiarity with evaluating system stability and failure scenarios is preferred.
  • Experience conducting combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis for magnet systems and working with engineering tools such as Mathcad, ANSYS, Opera-3D, Inventor, SpaceClaim, LabVIEW, and MATLAB.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to write your own software using C++, C#, and/or Python.

How we work together:

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company's facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company's main facilities, generally at the customers' or suppliers' locations.

This is an office role
