KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Project Scheduler to lead and coordinate detailed construction planning schedules for new construction and renovation work within the Terminal Development & Improvement Program. Reporting to the Program Scheduler, this role is responsible for developing and maintaining complex schedules that incorporate several scenarios used to finalize construction sequencing and contracting plans. These projects may include Airline Terminal Improvement projects, Airport Service Improvement projects, Terminal Development projects, and Asset Renewal. The Project Scheduler will act as an integral member of an owner’s program and project controls team, being directly responsible for scheduling multiple, interdependent projects of a large scale ($100m+ in value). This role requires a leader capable of collaborating with project managers, construction managers, control discipline leads, and claims staff to monitor, report on, and negotiate issues on assigned projects.

Position Summary: The Project Scheduler is responsible for reviewing designer and contractor submitted schedules and performing comprehensive analyses to ensure all submittals meet or exceed the requirements set forth by the contracts. This role requires a professional with a solid understanding of design and construction methodologies and project life-cycles, providing the owner with objective assessments of schedule delays using Time Impact Analysis or other means. The Project Scheduler will engage in direct discussions with contractors to understand the basis of delay claims and support the owner’s understanding of potential liabilities for the negotiation of appropriate settlements.

Key Responsibilities
Project & Design Management Support:
• Review project schedule submittals by Design and Contractor Teams, ensuring they follow project code and activity code structure.
• Perform independent analysis of submitted schedules for the Owner, including preliminary schedules, baseline schedules, four-week look-ahead schedules, monthly schedule updates, and as-built project schedules.
• Apply scheduling experience on large complex projects ($500+ million) throughout the project life cycle, including planning, design, and construction.
• Develop and implement KPIs and technical progress indicators to effectively communicate complex project sequencing and/or forensic assessments.
• Provide reports of analyses and briefing materials as required, communicating progress and findings to both technical and management-level personnel.

Construction & Operational Coordination:
• Facilitate coordination on interface issues between multiple projects to ensure seamless integration.
• Review monthly schedule updates and corresponding recovery schedules, time impact analyses, and time extension requests as applicable.
• Complete analyses of contractor’s delay claims and related time impact analyses within the context of contract documents and industry practice.
• Examine claims and actual schedules for later or earlier completion, identifying related disruption, acceleration, and recovery opportunities.
• Recommend apportionment of delay and/or acceleration and any additional associated costs in accordance with applicable, accepted practices, such as AACE International issued Recommended Practice No. 29 Forensic Schedule Analysis (RP 29).

Risk, Financial & Stakeholder Leadership:
• Identify, understand, and apply the relevant sections of the contract to each claim to protect the owner's interests.
• Perform complex schedule analysis and assist in the identification of risks, interdependencies across projects, and claims management.
• Assist with change order and claims disputes, and provide observations on potential delay mitigation and related schedule issues.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with design, construction, and maintenance professionals geared toward open communication and mutual problem-solving.

Qualifications Required:
• 10+ years of construction scheduling experience, with 5+ years of reporting (milestones, interdependencies, etc.) in direct support of an active construction program covering multiple projects.
• Direct forensic scheduling experience to support claims analysis on large-scale, complex heavy civil, vertical, and horizontal projects (projects of at least $200M value and 3-years or greater duration).
• Proven experience with various delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design+CMAR, and Design/Build.
• Advanced use of Oracle Primavera software (mastery of Primavera Project Planner Version 6.0 or higher required), along with related software tools such as Schedule Analyzer, Microsoft Project, and Claims Digger.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.

Preferred:
• Relevant Professional Licensure & Certifications are strongly preferred.
• Prior experience in aviation and large transportation projects is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated experience scheduling for multiple concurrent and interrelated projects from an owner's representative perspective.
• Proven accuracy, reliability, and completeness in job accomplishment.

Core Competencies:
• High level of communication skills to effectively convey technical and schedule-related information in oral and written form to non-expert audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other subject matter experts and resources to support the owner’s evaluation of claims.
• Expert knowledge of technical and complicated construction programs, contracts, and forensic schedule analysis methodologies.
• Commitment to maintaining high team morale through professionalism, productivity, and open collaboration.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure accurate tracking of multiple interdependent projects.
• Ability to work various shifts as needed, including after-hours or weekend work, to perform the duties of the position.

Anticipated Salary Range: $150,000.00 – $163,000.00 per year

KDG Construction Consulting

As a World War II and Korean War veteran who attended USC’s School of Architecture on the GI Bill, Robert Kennard founded The Kennard Design Group in 1957. The firm, which provided architecture and planning services, became one of the largest and oldest African-American architectural firms in Los Angeles.

The Kennard Development Group, dba KDG Construction Consulting (KDG), a derivative of the Kennard Design Group, was established by Mr. Kennard’s daughter, Lydia Kennard, in 1980 and incorporated in 1984. The firm began as a developer of mid & low rise office buildings, providing project development throughout the greater Los Angeles area. In the mid-1980s, KDG sold its office building portfolio and converted its expertise in development and construction management into a fee-for-service professional practice.

Today, KDG is a successful construction management services firm, certified by the State of California as a Small Business (SB) with a staff of exceptional project and construction management professionals. Over the past five years, KDG has coordinated and managed the construction of more than $2 billion in public works and capital improvement projects.

KDG’s staff includes civil, mechanical and electrical engineers and business-degreed professionals serving as construction managers, inspectors, estimators, and/or project control engineers. Averaging over 18 years of experience, KDG’s dedicated professionals ensure that projects are successfully executed, providing competent, responsive and well-coordinated services. Because KDG’s senior professionals actively participate in and supervise every project, the firm is able to maintain exceptionally high quality work products.
