Job Title: Project Surveyor
Job Description
The Project Surveyor supports a wide range of land surveying projects by analyzing field data and preparing key survey deliverables, including ALTA surveys, subdivision maps, legal descriptions, and construction staking calculations. This role collaborates closely with project managers, field crews, and clients to ensure accurate survey results, efficient coordination of field activities, and timely project completion. The Project Surveyor performs survey research, applies industry standards, and helps ensure that all work meets project requirements while contributing to a high-performing, growth-oriented team.
Responsibilities
- Calculate and analyze field boundary data to support land surveying projects and ensure accurate survey results.
- Assist field survey crews on complex survey engagements by providing technical guidance, calculations, and clarifications as needed.
- Perform survey research, including review of existing records, maps, and legal documents, to support boundary and topographic determinations.
- Prepare a variety of survey deliverables such as ALTA surveys, subdivision maps, legal descriptions, construction staking calculations, and condominium plans.
- Conduct survey data analysis and mapping using survey software and Civil 3D to produce precise and reliable deliverables.
- Provide ongoing support to multiple project managers by coordinating project tasks, monitoring progress, and communicating status updates.
- Coordinate and support field crews, including clarifying scope, providing necessary data and instructions, and addressing questions that arise during field work.
- Work closely with clients to understand project requirements, clarify survey needs, and ensure deliverables align with expectations and industry standards.
- Deliver projects on time and within budget by managing priorities, monitoring schedules, and maintaining efficient workflows.
- Apply fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of surveying while considering related disciplines and operational areas that impact survey work.
- Visit job sites as needed to inspect existing conditions and provide direction to field crews for completion of survey tasks.
- Use sound judgment and independent decision making to resolve technical issues, validate survey results, and maintain quality standards.
- Maintain clear, professional written and verbal communication with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated experience in land surveying, including boundary calculations and analysis of field data.
- Proficiency with survey data analysis and mapping, including the use of survey software and Civil 3D.
- Experience preparing ALTA surveys, subdivision maps, legal descriptions, construction staking calculations, and related survey deliverables.
- Strong understanding and application of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of surveying.
- Knowledge of related fields and operational areas that interact with or impact surveying activities.
- Ability to support and coordinate field survey crews on complex survey engagements.
- Ability to visit job sites to inspect existing conditions and provide direction to field crews.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with project managers, field staff, and clients.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods while working at a computer and viewing a screen.
- Ability to maintain prolonged focus, exercise sound judgment, and make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- California Professional Land Surveyor (P.L.S.) license preferred.
- Experience with land development and topographic surveys, including topography and construction-related surveying.
- Background as a survey technician or in similar survey support roles.
- Familiarity with ALTA standards and construction staking requirements.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Interest in professional growth, including pursuing licensure and expanding technical expertise.
- Comfort working with a variety of project types and adapting to changing project needs.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based in an office environment, with the option to visit field sites as needed to inspect conditions and support field crews. The survey team consists of approximately 26 people and is actively growing, offering opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge, and work on a wide variety of project types. The culture emphasizes teamwork, continuous learning, and meeting deadlines together. The dress code is business casual. Work hours are flexible, with typical start times between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., and most team members maintain a consistent schedule. A hybrid work arrangement is available, with employees working in the office two to three days per week, supported by modern survey software and tools to perform survey data analysis, mapping, and deliverable preparation.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.00/hr.
