Are you ready to lead major construction projects that shape the future of our community? In this role, you'll plan, direct, and coordinate large-scale construction programs for an assigned County division-ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest professional standards. From early design and cost estimation through construction and closeout, you'll play a central role in turning infrastructure plans into reality.
You'll identify and develop new projects by evaluating needs, guiding design solutions, and preparing accurate cost estimates. Acting as a key liaison between County departments, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the public, you'll ensure clear communication and smooth coordination at every stage. Your responsibilities include selecting and managing professional consultants, overseeing construction progress, administering contracts and grants, and preparing permits, reports, and reimbursement requests.
You'll also contribute to long-range capital improvement planning and annual budgets while providing technical leadership to engineering staff-reviewing plans and specifications, offering guidance, and ensuring quality and performance standards are met. As a licensed professional, you'll provide engineering services including signing, sealing, and certifying projects, while also leading, developing, and supporting a team of professionals.

Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications
Education and Experience: An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience: Bachelor's Degree Preferred: Civil Engineering Environmental Engineering Five (5) years of experience in engineering to include lead or supervisory experience. Licenses and/or Certificates: Must maintain a valid driver's license. Registered Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering Within six (6) months of position assignment: Ability to obtain registration in Florida.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
What You Bring:
You bring a strong understanding of departmental policies, modern office practices, and the engineering principles that support departmental projects. You're comfortable working with technical data, research methods, and statistics, and you know how to apply that information to real-world engineering and project decisions.
You're proficient with standard office technology and specialized tools, including project management software and CADD applications, and you can confidently read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract requirements. From providing design guidance to estimating project costs, you contribute thoughtful, well-informed input throughout the project lifecycle.
Clear communication is one of your strengths. You can translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences, prepare detailed reports and proposals, and maintain accurate records and documentation. You're also skilled at organizing priorities, managing multiple tasks, and exercising sound judgment when addressing new challenges.
In addition, you're capable of leading and coordinating the work of professional staff, technical support teams, and consultants, while building strong working relationships with public officials, department leaders, colleagues, and the community. Above all, you bring a collaborative, service-oriented approach and a commitment to quality, accuracy, and effective public service.
