Property Accountant
Location: Bethesda, MD (Onsite)
Employment Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time
Overview:
A well-established residential property management organization is seeking a Property Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a portfolio of affordable housing communities. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a structured, compliance-driven environment and enjoys working with complex reconciliations and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analysis
Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations for assigned properties
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial data in accordance with GAAP
Assist with year-end audit preparation, including work papers and supporting schedules
Support HUD REAC submissions and ensure compliance with state and regulatory reporting requirements
Coordinate with lenders and investors to fulfill reporting obligations
Track and reconcile escrows, reserves, tenant security deposits, and prepaid balances
Ensure compliance with HUD and state housing regulations
Partner with Property and Regional Managers to review budget variances and ensure accurate transaction posting
Support ongoing financial analysis and reporting needs for assigned portfolio
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2+ years of property accounting experience required
Experience with Yardi (Voyager/Affordable), RealPage, or OneSite preferred
Strong knowledge of GAAP and affordable housing accounting requirements
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with HUD 4350.3, REAC reporting, MOR audits, and LIHTC compliance
