About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join their accounting team and support a high-volume portfolio of properties. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong background in property management accounting, including both cash and accrual accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting.

The successful candidate will have experience managing accounting responsibilities for 20–25 properties and will be highly proficient in budgeting and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of approximately 20–25 properties
  • Perform and oversee both cash and accrual accounting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Develop, manage, and monitor property budgets and forecasts
  • Analyze actual results against budget and investigate significant variances
  • Prepare property-level financial reporting for management and stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and ensure proper classification of expenses and revenues
  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash activity related to assigned properties
  • Assist with year-end close, audits, and tax-related reporting as needed
  • Partner with property management teams to address financial questions and provide accounting support
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting

Qualifications

  • Property management accounting experience required
  • Experience managing accounting for a high-volume portfolio of properties
  • Strong experience with both cash and accrual accounting
  • Strong budgeting experience is required
  • Proven ability to analyze financial results, prepare variance explanations, and forecast performance
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with property management and accounting teams

Work Schedule

This position will be onsite 5 days per week during the initial training period. Once fully trained and integrated into the role, the position will transition to a hybrid schedule with 2 days onsite per week at the company's Midtown Manhattan location near 53rd Street and 3rd Avenue.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Property Accountant with strong property management experience to take ownership of a substantial portfolio and play an important role in budgeting, financial reporting, and overall property performance.
