Key Responsibilities of the Property Accountant



  • Manage the full-cycle accounting process for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, journal entries, and account reconciliations

  • Perform month-end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis

  • Monitor cash flow, forecast cash needs, and oversee property-level banking activity

  • Calculate and process management fees, owner distributions, accruals, and reclasses

  • Coordinate with on-site property management teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting

  • Review financial statements and provide analysis and commentary to leadership

  • Monitor lender escrows, replacement reserves, debt service, and other property obligations

  • Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, audits, and special projects

  • Support property acquisitions, dispositions, and new property onboarding as needed



Qualifications for the Property Accountant



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • 3+ years of property accounting experience, with multifamily experience strongly preferred

  • Experience managing the full accounting cycle for multiple properties

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, month-end close, and account reconciliations

  • Experience with Yardi, RealPage, MRI, or similar property management/accounting software

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required

  • Experience with cash forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting preferred

  • CPA or CPA-track is a plus, but not required

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
