Property Accountant (Contract) Tampa, FL
Overview
As a Property Accountant, you'll own complete and accurate accounting for utility plant (fixed assets) and capital projects, ensuring compliance with GAAP and Rural Utilities Services (RUS) requirements. You'll partner closely with engineering and plant stakeholders to track projects from budget through placement in service, maintain strong documentation across the asset lifecycle, and support reliable financial and tax reporting that leadership can trust.
This is an
onsite position in Tampa, Florida.
Required Skills- Property accounting knowledge (fixed assets, depreciation, retirements, disposals)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and the ability to apply standards to capital vs. expense decisions
- Experience supporting capital projects/work orders (including review for completeness and proper accounting treatment)
- Budgeting support and variance explanation capabilities
- Solid reporting skills and comfort preparing analyses and special reports
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening) with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Demonstrated strengths in analytical thinking, attention to detail, planning/organizing, problem solving, and customer orientation
Nice to Have Skills- Specialized training or experience in Electric Utility Property Accounting
- Experience supporting or preparing RUS reporting (including RUS Form 219 and RUS Form 254) and reconciling to a CWO General Ledger
- Experience performing testing/analysis for fixed asset accounting software upgrades
- Familiarity with plant systems and categories within power generating facilities to better support capital project accounting discussions
- Exposure to NERC compliance responsibilities and audit-ready evidence retention practices
Preferred Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or equivalent) required
- 3+ years of accounting experience required
- 2+ years in Property Accounting preferred
Other Requirements- Some travel and occasional work outside normal business hours
